About "Rasputin the X File":
I uploaded this for Halloween 2006.
I thought the original Boney M 70s disco classic was a great candidate for a Ukrainian lyrical makeover. If Rasputin had lived at the same time as Scully and Mulder his mysterious powers would have been of interest to them. It was also a prime candidate for being given Slavic language treatment, and as Ukrainian although a seperate and distinct language, is similar to Russian, and the original tune already has a melody that follows Ukrainian or Russian folk song melodic patterns, it was crying out to me. From a musical perspective, I found that as well as being suitable subject matter for The X Files, the theme tune from this programme sits very comortably next to the Rasputin melody. This was a song waiting to happen!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Stepan, and I am known by my nickname "Ludwig" by those who know me in Ukrainian diaspora community circles. I was the original accordionist and co-songwriter for Vorony, Kultura and The Smiths EP of The -Ukrainians.
Imagine a lonely mother in a remote Ukrainian village listening to this song on a crackly old bit of vinyl on her old Soviet era gramophone player as the last child to leave home sings along to it in a far away land.
It's a popular Ukrainian traditional song by composer P. Mayboroda (words by Malyshko) about mother and child parting for ever, a common occurrence in Ukraine's often tragic history. The mother gives him a traditional cloth into which she has embroidered all her hopes and fears, and her love for him. That's basically the gist of the song.
I thought it lends itself to Spanish guitar and French accordion interpretation quite nicely.
