Finally brought her in for dyno tuning. I just wanted a conservative tune that was safe across all RPM ranges. A few months later I found out the fuel pump filter was clogged up. When the filter was changed, the tune from this dyno session ended up being way too rich. So I think another 20 whp would be easy to get out of the car without any other changes. BTW the greddy turbo doesn't flow enough air for the engine (this turbo kit was designed for 6 psi boost, and I'm running it almost twice that). Assuming there is a 15-20% drivetrain loss on the rx-8, that puts me at 312 - 326 hp with a very conservative tune with that clogged fuel pump. Car is running with standard 93 gas. If Adam Marrilaga were the ultimate yirdaki technician, his older brother Quincey Matjaki must surely come a close second.
Matjaki has come a long way since I first heard him play yirdaki. Perhaps he was out of practice then, or has improved considerably since, but whichever way it might be, this clip kicks arse. Listen to Matjaki's technical execution as well as the pace he manages to get up to, he maintains very strong technique even when pumping it at blistering speed. The finesse of Larry Winiwini and the precision of Marrilaga are apparent in Matjaki's style of play.
It will be hard to let go of this stick, a stunning instrument made by Bruce Burrngupurrngu with concentrated power. The acoustics are finely structure with outstanding resolution, super-sweet overtone note, and ochre-rendered Dhalwangu miny'tji to die for. This is a yirdaki of high pedigree and cultural integrity, the result of a Burrngupurrngu-Djul'djul husband and wife team. Burrngupurrngu and Djul'djul talked at length over the phone about this yirdaki before I finally set eyes on this spectacular piece of work.

1. Lombardini TD025M-03C turbocharger with an integral wastegate
2. a pressure outlet on the engine that will serve as an adequate feed to the turbo for oil
3. Using a Draw Through system by relocating the Carb
4. An electric fuel pump from an automotive electronic fuel injection system takes fuel from the tank and puts it under pressure. The pump is capable of delivering up to 125 psi of fuel pressure. The pump feeds a rail with a BEGi rising rate fuel pressure regulator on the end of it. The pressure regulator maintains a base pressure of approximately 30 psi in the rail and bypasses the rest of the fuel back to the tank. Fuel is taken off the rail and split off at a tee. One leg of the tee goes to a low pressure returnless fuel pressure regulator, designed for carbureted fuel systems, which lowers the pressure down to 5 psi to deliver it to the carburetor bowl. This allows us to eliminate the stock fuel pump, which was a mechanical pump operated by manifold vacuum. The other leg of the tee goes to a shutoff solenoid, then to a manually adjustable needle valve, and then finally to a fuel nozzle with very small delivery jets. The fuel nozzle is mounted directly into the charge pipe, to deliver extra fuel directly to the engine's inlet port. It is important that the fuel nozzle has an extremely small orifice, since the amount of fuel that will come through the injector is very small. Remember, this fuel is in addition to the base fuel flow that will come out of the carburetor, to provide a richer mixture under boost.

Just upgraded my GReddy turbo kit to the MazdaManiac upgrade. It is a specially modified Garrett GT4071R(WG) turbocharger with a machined compressor back plate and specially adapted flanges to fit the GReddy manifold and downpipe. It's a drop in replacement for the anemic greddy turbo. We also upgraded the fuel injectors to four 380 cc, and two 650 cc.
