True Bliss - Number One - 224 sec
TrueBliss was a New Zealand reality television pop band formed in April 1999. The formation of the band was documented on the highly-rated television show, Popstars, aired on state run TV2 over nine weeks. The band was the first group in the world to be formed under the Popstars banner, before the concept was sold to Australia later forming the group Bardot in similar style and then on sold to continental Europe, UK and the United States. Five unknown girls, Joe Cotton, Keri Harper, Erika Takacs, Carly Binding and Megan Alatini, were taken from obscurity to instant stardom overnight while enjoying commercial success with their #1 New Zealand single, 'Tonight'. TrueBliss was managed by Jonathan Dowling, and, briefly, by Simon Grigg, although on TV they were portrayed as being managed by Peter Urlich, one of New Zealand's most notable music gurus, and enjoyed three single releases with label Columbia, an imprint of Sony Music. The girls signed sponsorship deals with Pepsi and Burger King before embarking on the 'Number One Tour' across 17 towns nationwide. Demand for tickets to the shows was so strong that matinee performances were put on in most venues. 'Number One' was the follow up to 'Tonight', achieving a #12 position on the New Zealand charts. Its video was, and remains to this day, the most expensive New Zealand music video. In September of 1999 a cover of the George Michael penned 'Freedom' was released but failed to chart due to changes in chart reporting. Columbia discussed a follow-up album to the platinum 11-track debut Dream in 1999, but it was never recorded. The planned first single 'We Kissed' was written by Carly Binding who then left the band in early 2000 citing personal differences. She has since gone on to record a string of hits. South African-born Megan Cassie later married All Black Pita Alatini. She also opened a hair braiding shop in Dunedin she ran herself. In July 2006 Megan Alatini reappeared on screens in NZ Idol (taking over from Jackie Clarke who left the show after just one season) as the third judge along with Iain Stables and Frankie Stevens. She also played Java in Cloud 9's The Tribe along with her two sisters Monique Cassie and Meryl Cassie. They formed a band called Tribe Spirit. Megan is also competed on the third season of New Zealand's 'Dancing with the Stars' finishing in second place. Carly Binding has had the most successful career afterwards scoring six top 40 hits and a gold-selling album 'Passenger' as well as donating her hit song 'This Is It' to the New Zealand AIDS Foundation's 'Love Is...' campaign. Her new album 'So Radiate' was released on 3 July 2006. Joe Cotton was signed with TV2 to host the Thursday-Saturday 'M2' show (a graveyard shift alternative music programme). Joe left M2 (when it was cancelled in February 2003) and after appearing on 'Celebrity Treasure Island' is now a fill-in host on the C4 music channel show 'Select Live'. She has recently appeared on the shows 'The Great New Zealand Spelling Bee', 'Pop Goes The Weasel' and 'Celebrity Joker Poker'. She now hosts her own show on the New Zealand radio station "The Edge". She was also the vocal coach for Boyband and did backing vocals on their b-side Pour Some Sugar On Me from their chart-topping single You Really Got Me. Erika Takacs hosted the weekly 'Coke RTR Top 20' show which was cancelled after two seasons. Her contract with the chain store Video Ezy expired at the same time. However she continues to appear on celebrity shows and was signed to Sony for a single 'Do It' which remains unreleased. Keri Harper kept the lowest profile post-TrueBliss although a song called 'Atmosphere' was produced by Che Fu it has never been released. She has also had cameos in the finale song of the 2002 "Coca Cola Christmas in the Park" (Auckland performance) and, in 2005, in the series final of the charitable show So You Wanna Be A Popstar? with all other True Bliss members except Binding. Keri has continued with theatre work including a stint with Michael Barrymore in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. In 2007, both Joe and Keri are competing in Pop's Ultimate Star. Keri was the first contestant to be eliminated. Joe Cotton went on to win this competition. The way to experience this bliss is what I mentioned in the beginning--bend the body, mend the senses, end the mind. This is true culture. Have faith in this culture, lead a pure and meaningful life and attain the goal of human life. "The real Truth emanates from the heart, Man is not a product of the external word. He has come from the Divine. You are Divine! Develop this conviction". "Bend the body, mend the senses, end the mind. The first step is to 'bend the body.' That means you should not allow the ego to develop within your body. Cultivate humility and do your duties sincerely. This is what is implied in 'Bend the body.' 'Mend the senses' calls for examining how the senses behave, whether they are tending to go astray, and correcting and restraining them when necessary. 'End the mind' calls for quietening the vagaries of the mind'. How is this to be done? It is by turning the mind in a different direction. For example, there is a lock and a key. When the key is turned towards the left the lock gets locked. If the key is turned towards the right the lock is opened. Thus the key performs both the functions of locking and unlocking. In man, the heart is the lock. The mind is the key. When the mind is turned Godward the heart develops detachment. When the mind is turned towards the world, the heart develops attachment. Thus both detachment and attachment result from the way the mind functions. When the mind is directed towards the phenomenal world, bondage ensues. When you turn the mind towards Divinity, you experience BLISS. 'End the mind' means turning the mind Godward. All you have to do is to dedicate every action of yours to the Divine. Then everything becomes easy and a source of BLISS. Sathya Sai Baba "Rama, Krishna, Jesus, Allah, Mazda, Buddha these are names of the Many-faceted One. When you pay attention to one facet, the rest are not neglected or negated. When the devotee dives into the flood of Bliss which One Name-Form confers, he is diving into the same ocean of Bliss that the Full is. Sathya Sai Baba When you try to prepare a meal, you may have with you all the materials and ingredients you need but unless you have the fire in the hearth, you cannot cook and make an edible meal out of it. So too with life, Jnana (spiritual wisdom) is the fire which makes the material world and the external activities, edible and tasty, healthy and joyful. That joy is called Ananda; it is uplifting, it is illuminating, it is constructive. Iha-nivaasam (life in the world) is for Para-praapthi (attaining salvation). That is to say, life 'here' is for the sake of reaching 'there' Sathya Sai Baba How can anyone explain that Cosmic Consciousness? It's like trying to measure the sky with a twelve-inch ruler. Our measuring instruments the mind and the vocabulary - are very, very limited. All we can say is, "It's something blissful." In that blissful state you always experience joy. You never get disturbed by anything. You never feel any anxiety or worry or fear. In that state of Cosmic Consciousness, there is no fear at all because you see everything as the same: one essence expressed as many. You learn to accept everything as part of the different expressions. In that state there's no friend, there's no enemy; it is all the same. We often see images of God with one hand raised, the palm icing outward. That is the hand of fearlessness. The other hand will be pointed down, again with the palm outward. What is He telling us? "If you humble yourself and take refuge at my feet, you have nothing to fear." Attaining the feet of the Lord means attaining God-Consciousness. When you have that God-Consciousness, you know that everything is God, no matter what it looks like. Then why should we be afraid of anything? The Bhagavad Gita says it beautifully: "Who is a great sage? The one who neither brings fear to anyone, nor is afraid of anyone." Such a person is a person with that supreme, infinite God-Consciousness.
