The Tripods - Season One Re-Cap W/S - 207 sec
The sequel to my Tripods (Re-Imagined) video is here at last in glorious widescreen! All the most exciting moments from season one of this fantastic BBC science fiction drama from 1984. The story so far: it is the year 2089. The Earth has been colonised by mysterious aliens who subjugate the human population by inducing apathy in the form of mechanical impregnation. Human children are allowed only a carefully monitored form of freedom until their fourteenth year of age, whereupon they are ceremonially 'capped' and enslaved by their alien masters. Three boys decide their freedom is too greater sacrifice and decide to run away to join the legendary 'Freemen' in the White Mountains but their journey becomes fraught with dangers as they are tracked by the alien invaders in their awesome towering machines, the Tripods... The Tripods is due for DVD release by 2/entertain soon. To find out more about The Tripods, log onto www.thetripods.org

The Tripods - 311 sec
The Tripods Trailer of season 1 & 2 Season one of the Tripods, broadcast in 1984, which had 13 half-hour episodes, covers the first book, The White Mountains; the 12-episode second season (1985) covers The City of Gold and Lead. The project was cancelled before the third season went into production. The first season is available on DVD but the second has yet to be released. Although preorders were taken in 2003 for the second season, they were all cancelled. There was another release date for Tripods - The Complete Series 1 & 2 on DVD for September 2007, but this has changed to September 2008. The series features titles which look like computer-generated credits but were actually made by human animators. The music soundtrack was written by Ken Freeman. It can be noted that the series introduced several minor changes from the book, notably the shape of the Masters and Tripods, which have no tentacles (although the Tripods do have a mechanical (?) claw-arm that they sometimes use); in the book, gravity inside the Golden City was increased artificially, which is not mentioned in the TV series; the introduction of "cognoscs", spiritual life-forms vastly superior to the Masters themselves; and more interesting main characters, including love interests for both Will and Beanpole. The original texts have almost no female characters at all. Mr. Youd was recently asked about this for an interview on Wordcandy.[citation needed] He replied that at the time of writing the series, it was generally accepted that girls would read books with boy main characters, but not vice versa. He also stated that he felt the addition of an entire family of girls to the TV series was somewhat "over the top". The series is also notable for featuring non-humanoid aliens, which was uncommon at the time. BBC Enterprises licensed a video game adaptation of the TV series in 1985. It was designed by Watermill Productions and published by Red Shift.[2] A film adaptation was announced by Touchstone Pictures, to be directed by Gregor Jordan slated for release in 2009.

Are All Camera Tripods Built Alike? - 404 sec
http://geeks.pirillo.com - http://live.pirillo.com - You'd think that all tripods are the same. They all have three legs, right? But saying that is tantamount to saying that all cars are the same, because they have four wheels. A few weeks ago, I broke yet another tripod. I've owned several, and they just never last. http://chris.pirillo.com

The Tripods (1984) Part 01 - 600 sec
A BBC series adapted from the first book ("The White Mountains") in John Christopher's "Tripods" trilogy...Be sure to read all three books. Eventhough Christopher targeted an older teen audience the books are written on an adult level and should just as interesting to adults too. The 2nd book is the "The City of Gold and Lead" and the 3rd is the "The Pool of Fire." They are great reads and go beyond this first TV series. There was a 2nd BBC series made based on the 2nd book but it veered away from the story so much and was less realistic. Disney's Touchstone Pictures has now bought the rights to all 3 books and is in progress of making the first book into a movie. Expect Hollywood to alter the story(I'm sorry to say) to target an American audience(the story will most likely be set here in the future North America where was the USA). I hope they get smart and stay close to the original story with good quality and good acting instead of depending solely on CGI/special affects for the whole movie(like most new Sci-Fi movies). In 2089, the human race lives a peaceful, agrarian existence in post-technological communities under the rule of the Tripods, vast alien machines that look like the Martians from War of the Worlds. In a small English village, teenage cousins Will (John Shackley) and Henry (Will Baker) are troubled as they near the age at which they will be "capped", fitted by the local Tripod with a metallic hairnet which will turn them into docile, uncreative, happy servants of the invaders. A wily vagrant tells the boys that far to the south, a community of uncapped freemen resists the Tripods, and they set off on a 13-episode journey that takes them to the coast, across the English Channel and down through France, with stop-offs in the impressive ruins of Paris, at a medieval-style chateau and on a vineyard in the Jura. Along the way, the lads fall in with "Bean Pole" (Ceri Seel), a gangling, bespectacled French rebel who is fascinated with the lost arts of machine-making, but at each of their stopovers there are temptations, mostly in the forms of appealing French girls, to settle down and become happy conformists.

The Tripods (Re-Imagined) - 65 sec
My new version of The Tripods titles, together with my favourite piece of incidental music from the Ken Freeman soundtrack. Bit of a slow moving (!) series from the BBC with some dodgy acting (!!) but some great moments all the same. Enjoy! (With huge thanks to MrTSW for all his help and patience!)

The Tripods "Next Time" - Episode 1 - 45 sec
Available to buy on Second Sight/BBC DVD "The Tripods" is a much under-appreciated 1980s BBC science fiction serial. The programme was based on John Christopher's "Tripods Trilogy". Buy the DVDs then we might get a release of the long-awaited second series! This video is the style of the "Next Time" segments of 2005's fantastic "Doctor Who" series.
