Trip-Hop Music: Bentley Rhythm Ace - Bentley's Gonna[...] - 296 sec
The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Bentley's Gonna Sort You Out!' by Bentley Rhythm Ace. "Bentley Rhythm Ace (BRA) is a band formed in birmingham, england in the late 1990s, by former members of the band Pop Will Eat Itself, with guest appearances by Milf, a member of indie band EMF. Their self-titled debut ('Bentley Rhythm Ace') was released in 1997 and spawned the hugely popular single 'Bentley's Gonna Sort You Out'. A second album, 'For Your Ears Only', was released in 2000 but was less popular. A further single 'Madam, Your Carriage Awaits' was released. The group also compiled a 2CD 'FSUK' compilation (FSUK 3 (Mixed by Bentley Rhythm Ace) (disc 1); FSUK 3 (Mixed by Bentley Rhythm Ace) (disc 2)). The name likely refers to the Rhythm Ace line of analogue drum machines manufactured by Ace Tone, some of which were rebranded and distributed by Bentley Pianos in the uk. The group epitomises the big beat era. Signed to skint records, they have enjoyed much commercial success with their music being used on television advertisements and with an enormous underground following. The group have all but split, playing the occasional low-key DJ set and have released no further material since 2000." http://www.last.fm/music/Bentley+Rhythm+Ace

Trip-Hop Music: Blue States - Metro Sound - 281 sec
The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Metro Sound' by Blue States. "Blue States is an electronic/dream pop band headed up by Andy Dragazis. The band has been active since 1997 and is still producing music out of Sussex, England as of 2005. A track from their 2002 album Man Mountain, "Season Song", appeared on the soundtrack to the British horror film, "28 Days Later". 1998 Inspired by Aphrodite's Child and David Axlerod, 22 year old, half-Greek man mountain Andy Dragazis aka Blue States records demos on his home studio set up in a barn on the Sussex Downs in England. Sends demos to fledgling label Memphis Industries who like them very much and get in touch. 1999 First release for both Blue States and Memphis is the "Blue States Forever" EP. Further EPs follow -- Your Girl and Walkabout. Blue States find themselves in some weird downtempo twilight zone inhabited by Zero 7, Bent, Lemon Jelly and many more. 2000 Blue States release their first album Nothing Changes Under the Sun, an expansive, windswept, epic stand out tracks include Your Girl and Stereo 99. It's critically acclaimed and starts to sell surprisingly well. 2001 Blue States are naturally asked to perform at the Big Chill Festival in Somerset, England and Andy hastily puts a band together including Sam Walker (drums), Chris Carr (guitar), Dicken White (guitar) and Karl the Jackal (bass) -- Andy takes up keyboard duties. This ramshackle unit starts touring round the UK. The album is licensed to the Thievery Corporation's record label ESL Music and gets a US release. Lady singer Ty Bulmer joins the band to add some sass and vocals." http://www.last.fm/music/Blue+States

Trip-Hop Music: Lemongrass - Sunrise On Fujiyama - 400 sec
The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Sunrise On Fujiyama' by Lemongrass. "Roland Voss, aka Lemongrass, moved through several musical phases before hitting his stride as a drum'n'bass/downtempo producer in the late '90s. The German-born Voss began taking drum lessons in 1974, and played with a variety of funk and (mostly) jazz ensembles over the rest of the decade. When the '80s arrived, Voss became interested in new wave, and from there began experimenting with electronic means of sound production. During the second half of the '80s, Voss founded a number of projects -- mostly dance groups, but also a punk band called Klappstuhl -- and landed in a Berlin band called New Nations, where he began working in earnest with electronic instruments and sampling techniques. Voss eventually released his first album, 1993's breakbeat-oriented Wuwei, under the alias Succa V, and soon began working with drummer Torsten Kötter as Jungle-Moon; their first release in 1994 marked Voss' first full-fledged venture into jungle. Voss spent the mid-'90s working on large-scale multimedia projects with a variety of other artists. He made his debut as Lemongrass in 1997 with a drum'n'bass cover of Gershwin's "Summertime," which appeared on the small German label Incoming's Submerged compilation. The first Lemongrass full-length, Dramatic Universe, followed in 1998, and found Voss mixing his early jazz influences into a variety of jungle and haunting trip-hop productions. The album's reception -- particularly warm in France -- landed Voss a deal with Mole Listening Pearls, and his label debut, Lumière Obscure, was issued soon after in 1999. The single "Comme Toujours" became something of a club hit, and Voss followed it up with 2000's otherworldly Voyage au Centre de la Terre. Continuing his fast-paced release schedule, the fourth Lemongrass album, Windows, was released in early 2001 and re-released two years later by Water Music." http://www.last.fm/music/Lemongrass

Trip-Hop Music: Airlock - Before The Summertime - 352 sec
The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Before The Summertime' by Airlock. "In 1998, Musicom, (a three piece from Brussels consisting of Pierre Mussche, Ernst Meinrath and Renaud Charlier), began crafting tracks of cool electronic ambience mixed with orchestral hip-hop, as soundtracks for adverts and underground films. Scottish born Esra Tasasiz was working in Brussels at that time writing and composing songs with various Brussels based artists. She joined Musicom and the four decided to work together on recording a short piece of music. It was during these sessions that it soon became obvious that their creative output worked outside the confines of cinematography and Airlock were formed. The production of their first album 'Drystar' stretched over a period of two-and-a-half-years. During this time Airlock met with cult film director Oliver Van Hoofstadt and wrote some tracks in conjunction with the making of three of his films - Keo, Snuff Movie, and Parabellum. 'Face Down' the composition that appeared on Parabellum, finally made its way via European radio stations to the desks of British record labels as part of a demo. After being spoilt for choice, they signed up with One Little Indian on which 'Drystar' was released in 2001. The connection between Airlock and films was kept alive with their work on Roman Coppola's the "Making of" of CQ. Furthermore, many tracks from 'Drystar' were used in films and series such as "CSI", "CSI Miami", "As If", "Model Behaviour", "5 go dating", and more. Airlock began work on their second album. The album was completed in October however, before they had played the album to anybody, all of the masters were destroyed in a studio fire. Airlock had to re-record the entire album! Whilst the studio was being rebuilt, the band decided to write some new songs for the album and worked in an improvised studio with minimal equipment. Though they had to change their working habits by that (the band considered this as a positive challenge), it also gave them the opportunity to concentrate more on the writing itself. The new album 'Symptomatic' has elements of tension, naivety, strength, conviction, vulnerability and freedom. Compared to their debut with its various musical directions, 'Symptomatic' is more coherent. There are less instrumental tracks and warm sounds of analog synths are used on all tracks. The content of the album however, deals with a mixture of emotions, experiences and expressions (or symptoms...) resulting from the issues Airlock had to face." http://www.last.fm/music/Airlock

Trip-Hop Music: A Guy Called Gerald - Fever [Remix] - 432 sec
The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: Black Dog's remix of 'Fever' by A Guy Called Gerald. "A Guy Called Gerald is the stage name for musician, record producer and DJ Gerald Simpson from Moss Side in Manchester, United Kingdom. He has proven to be among the most innovative modern electronic music figures to emerge during the 1980s. He is perhaps best known for his early work in the Manchester acid house scene in the late 1980s and the track Voodoo Ray. At that time, he specialised in techno music produced using equipment such as the Roland TB-303 bass synthesiser and the TR-808 drum machine (he sourced much of his equipment from Johnny Roadhouse, a second-hand music shop that is otherwise the haunt of non-mancunian students). Simpson was heavily influenced by his Jamaican roots; his fathers blue-beat, ska and Trojan reggae record collection, his mothers pentecostal church sessions and the Jamaican Sound system (DJ) parties in Manchesters Moss Side area where he grew up. He absorbed jazz fusion at clubs like Legends in Manchester where the dancefloor in the early 1980s inspired him to study contemporary dance. Around 1983 with electro booming and early hip hop, Breakdancing and b-boy culture making its way from the US, he left dance college to immerse himself in electronic music. At this time music from Detroit and Chicago - from producers such as Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson was being played by Stu Allen on Piccadilly Radio and imported directly into Manchesters specialist record shops. Inspired, Gerald began experimenting with tape editing and drum machines and the regular jams in the attic of his house led to forming the Scratchbeat Masters. Using cut up beats, samples and turntables they would challenge other crews and their sound systems. They released a 12 single called Wax On The Melt, a collaboration between a number of crews and Graham Massey and Martin Price together with whom he would later form 808 State. Their first album Newbuild was released in 1988 but he soon left the group to concentrate on his solo work. The result of heading back into his bedroom studio was Voodoo Ray, played first at the infamous Hacienda in 1988 and then the underground clubs and entering the UK charts a year later. It was one of the first acid house tracks produced in the UK. This was a time when musicians believed they needed to be signed to a major record company to have a hit but without the backing of the major label marketing machine and spurred on by the acid house fever sweeping the club scene, Voodoo Ray entered the charts in 1989. At the same time a track hed started before leaving 808 State, Pacific State. was released and hit the charts. However, according to Simpson, they had finished and released the track without Simpsons permission. Although Simpson was credited on its first release on the album Quadrastate both as a writer and co-producer, the dispute escalated as Simpson claimed to have written the entire track. The dispute was eventually settled out of court. In 1991 after a mismatched partnership with CBS / Sony producing one album, Automanikk he started his own label, Juicebox Records, releasing a string of pioneering 12 singles - the seeds of what became known as jungle and later drum and bass. The first singles were compiled and released on his landmark (and very rare) third album 28 Gun Bad Boy (1992). During the next five years as jungle rose in popularity and expanded well beyond its UK roots, Simpson released a string of groundbreaking music on Juicebox. In 1995 his next album, Black Secret Technology was released. It is cited as one of the first single-artist drum and bass albums and was very well received. In 1997 he moved to New York and in 2000 released Essence on the independent label, !K7 Records. Essence was Simpsons first song-based rather than dance/club album featuring guests such as Lou Rhodes, David Simpson, Lady Miss Kier and Wendy Page. In October 2004 Voodoo Ray appeared in popular videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on House Music radio station SF-UR. In January 2005 he released a more ambient album To All Things What They Need on !K7 Records. His latest album called Proto Acid / The Berlin Sessions was released on German label Laboratory Instinct in August 2006. A continuous mix album it was recorded live in Berlin and is a definite return to the dancefloor. New release August 4th In Yer Head featuring Mia (PERL71 Perlon Records) 1995s Black Secret Technology album has been remastered and was reissued July 28." http://www.last/fm/music/A+Guy+Called+Gerald

"Fusion" (Trip-Hop to Balisong / ring trick video art) - 567 sec
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxXnSSZYXR0 A chilled smooth Trip-Hop Track (Fusion) which was produced 2003 by Zwieback and me to extreme Balisong / Butterfly knife manipulation with some easy video art (I experimented with some filters) so edited that it looks cool. A few ring tricks in between are not that clean performed but I did not remove them because of the video effects, others are. Watch out for my DVD when it is finished and buy it of course ;) Used Knifes: BM 40 TR (trainer). recorded and edited in September 2007 Balian Fabisong Youtube and the rest of the organisation can suck my dick for manipulating down everything and so on, I only upload that here because I don`t have my own thing till now. I will always do what I want like and think is correckt nomatter what will happen until I die. If you do what I do you have to live with extreme unpleasant byeffects, I don`t hope that this is usual but in my case everybody trys to get on my nervs and so on. I recommend you to disable comments from the beginning on and to disable messages and so on but don`t know if that will help. Best is to make your own homepage I think and to realize that youtube exists mostly to piss people (99,99 % of the people simulate that they piss them too), viewnumbers and everything else are manipulated. But do what you want if you can`t let it be and don`t let you manipulate too much. At all I don´t know what to do and do what I want.

Trip-Hop Music: Akira Yamaoka - Maternal Heart - 183 sec
The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Maternal Heart' by Akira Yamaoka. "Akira YAMAOKA (山岡晃 YAMAOKA Akira, born February 6, 1968 in Niigata, Japan) has composed music for dozens of Konami video games. Yamaoka attended Tokyo Art College, where he studied product design and interior. He joined Konami on September 21, 1993, after previously being a freelance music composer. He is best known for his work on the Silent Hill series of video games, for which he composed all the music and sound effects in all five current games (excluding the Silent Hill Play Novel for the Game Boy Advance), and will be composing music for the upcoming Silent Hill V. Some of the music from the first three games was also remixed and used in the Silent Hill movie. In addition to this, he also played a doubly important role as producer of the third and fourth Silent Hill games (which were available for PlayStation 2/PC and PlayStation 2/Xbox/PC respectively). His music from Silent Hill 2 was performed live in 2005 at the third Symphonic Game Music Concert in Leipzig, Germany and at the world-premiere of PLAY! A Video Game Symphony on May 27, 2006 in Chicago, Illinois, where Yamaoka himself accompanied the orchestra with an electric guitar. As well, Yamaoka actively composes music for Konami's Bemani line of games, particularly, the Beatmania IIDX series. His first original, non-soundtrack album, iFUTURELIST, was released in January 2006." http://www.last.fm/music/Akira+Yamaoka

Trip-Hop Music: Waldeck - Spy Like An Angel - 321 sec
The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Spy Like An Angel' by Waldeck. "Klaus Waldecks musical career started in Vienna, Austria when he took piano lessons at the age of six. When he was fifteen his music life was put on hold when he destroyed a Bechstein piano while rewiring it. Waldeck later went to law school (though his heart was still with music). He finished law school and became a copyright lawyer. Then he heard about a case that changed his focus from law back to music. It was during the time when George Harrison got sued for ripping off an old motown tune, Waldeck recounts, I realised the way forward was to work a melody until it didnt belong to anyone anymore. He eventually stopped focusing on law altogether and concentrated on music. Soon after his decision to leave law completely he moved (along with all of his electronic music equipment) to England. While in London, he met his vocal counterparts, former Incognito singer Joy Malcolm and Brian Amos, who worked on projects such as Pressure Drop. The three have been with each other ever since. In 1996, Waldeck returned to Vienna, Austria and produced the Northern Lights EP, quickly gaining international attention through its biggest hit, Aquarius. A successful full length album, Balance of The Force, followed in 1998. Later that year, Balance of the Force - Remixed was released. Waldeck has produced a multitude of albums while still in Austria. Unfortunately, however, many of them are out of print and are very scarce. The out of print albums include The Night Garden Reflowered, Balance of the Force, Balance of the force Remixed, Northern lights, and This Isnt Maybe. Sometimes described as trip-hop Klauss songs have a very calm and laidback theme. They often consist of mellow vocals sung either by Joy Malcolm or Brian Amos (although sometimes they consist of only Klauss instrumentals). While some people have mixed feelings towards the male-female vocal fluctuations, others feel that they offer versatility in the sound while still maintaining the unique style of his music." http://www.last.fm/music/Waldeck
