So I was going through the stuff on my computer again, trying to purge and clean house (this poor thing is always borderline overburdened, it seems), and suddenly I'm reminded of two music videos I put together several months back and never submitted to Sheezy. Well, that has to be fixed.
Yes, yes... I'm something of a closet Trekie. What can you expect? My parents practically raised me on Next Generation, since they were both oldschool Trekies. But even though its been years since I was actually big on Trek, one aspect of ST is still rather alive in my imagination.
The Borg.
The Borg were undoubtedly one of Trek's best villains, and food for thought. A lot of debate and discussion on issues of technology and human-computer interface centers around ideas and concerns personified by the Borg. "Resistance is futile" has definitely made its rounds in pop culture, mispronounciation and all. Microsoft has been compared to them. Unlike all the other alien races of Trek, the Borg seem, somehow, closer to home; they mirror the greatest fears of a tech-dependent culture, the fear that technology is accelerating at the expense of humanity, the unspoken dread that our advancements may one day overtake us.
That's why I love the Borg. You can bounce so many ideas off of them. But anyone who knows much about Voyager can tell you that the formerly indominable Borg kinda got the short end of the stick later on in Trek, to the point where they were more or less made to look incompetent.
That's one of the things I aimed to address with this MV, along with questioning the sanity of the Borg Queen (many would argue she shouldn't even exist in the first place). I've also tended to use this as a way to introduce fellow RPers to the Borg when I've played as Asheroth, so it represents the more martial and forceful take on the Borg that I use for that character.
