Accentus, Laurence Equilbey - Transcriptions DVD - 186 sec

Baroque Transcriptions for Guitar: Favorites of my new CD - 368 sec
THANK YOU for all HELPFUL ratings and critiques! FORTUNATELY, I´d never studied anything on guitar PLAYING, thus, please be not disappointed, not to find any conventional guitar techniques, in special the vibrato. Early I concentrated to play the CONTINUO part in BAROQUE music and mainly following the style of the harpsichordists. This is the greatest FUN and satisfaction for me. TRANSCRIPTIONS are for me exercises of continuo playing too: the outer voices (solopart and bassline) have to be played completely unchanged (only few octavations may be allowed), and few continuo completions may be used in the middle voice(s). This is the difference to an "arangement", where greater deviations (simplifications or "improvements") of the original piece commonly are accepted. Great support comes from my instrument (J. Schneider, 1983) almost playing by itself, with its powerful bass register. The expressive treble strings (nylgut) allow very easlily left hand rechniques (embellishments) and "modelling" of the tunes by the right hand, both being essentials for performing baroque music. The famous virtuoso Remy Boucher (see my favourites) uses a similar instrument of Schneider´s "Donja" guitars for his own style. For details of the CD (profesional studio recordings!) with sonatas for CELLO (Jacchini, de Fesch, Schaffrath), VIOLIN (Corelli), RECORDER (Pepusch), and the BAROQUE LUTE (Reusner, Anonymus, Weiss), please, visit the website www.duocontinuo.de - thank you for listening - Siegfried Andreae - from Berlin .

Franz Liszt: Two song transcriptions: 'Du schaust mich an' (Lessmann); 'Der Asra' (Rubinstein) - 519 sec
These two late song transcriptions date from 1882 and 1880 respectively. It is sad that although some of Liszt's transcriptions have become popular repertoire pieces in recent years, the items regularly heard in concert tend to be transcriptions of works that are still well known today in their original forms (eg, Verdi and Mozart operatic paraphrases). Liszt expended as much care on transcriptions of works that are less well known today, including those by friends and colleagues. Otto Lessman (1844-1918) was editor of an influential musical newspaper, and Liszt set three of Lessmann's settings of verses from Julius Wolff's 'Tannhauser'. Rubinstein's song is a setting of a poem from Heine's 'Romanzeros' based on Arab stories. ---------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk

Operatic transcriptions recital part 10 - virtuoso fantasy - 391 sec
Pastiche fantasy, my own composition, in the style of Liszt and Thalberg, principally based on a theme fron Donizetti's Don Pasquale. There is also a theme quoted from Bellini's La Somnabula. The final item in the transcriptions recital.

Two piano transcriptions of show songs - 376 sec
'How High the Moon' (Lewis & Hamilton), from 'Two for the Show'; 'I didn't know what time it was' (Rodgers & Hart), from 'Pal Joey' --------------------------------------- These two anonymous transcriptions were published in the album '40 Real Piano Solos', published by Charles Hansen, New York (probably late 1970s). These are sophisticated, fully worked-out and fingered independent piano transcriptions, and not merely reductions from piano/vocal scores. As no seperate copyright data is given for the arrangements, they could be by Carl Andersen, named on the cover as the compiler of the book. They would make good encores. --------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk

Nicholas Payton - Sun Goddess - 179 sec
Two quick takes of my transcription of Nick's solo on the gorgeous Ramsey Lewis tune "Sun Goddess". Great changes on this one, and Nicholas's solo couldn't be more lyrical. Neither one is perfect, but in the interest of full disclosure I'm putting them both up.. hopefully between the two I got everything right at least once ;) The second take is better if you ask me. And sorry for the slight distortion in there - like I said, it was a quick take and I didn't spend enough time setting levels. Ah well. You can check out this and my other transcriptions at www.arcellussykes.com/transcriptions.
