To conclude Buick's 2008 Tee Off With Tiger competition, 2008 US Open Champion Tiger Woods served as a personal caddie and coach to golf fan John Abel, 59, of West Berlin, New Jersey at Torrey Pines Golf Club in California.
This was the first time Tiger Woods was back on the links at Torrey Pines since his historic sudden death 2008 US Open Victory over Rocco Mediate.
The Tee Off With Tiger competition, which commenced earlier this year, required golf fans to forecast the most holes closest to Woods actual score for each respective tournament that Tiger played. The top ten entrants from each tournament were deemed finalists and a grand prize winner was chosen.
Bader TV executive producer Mike Leventhal greeted Tiger when he arrived at the course moments before meeting a quite nervous John Abel.
Though Woods season was cut short by injury, one lucky fan qualified for the ultimate sports fantasy by having the worlds greatest golfer serve as a personal caddie.
Abel, who works at a printing plant, has been an amateur golfer for nine years. The factory which employs the New Jersey resident is set to close in February 2009. The plant produces bank checks but with the movement to electronic banking, unfortunately, Mr. Abel will be out of work.
On the course, John was a little nervous but soon developed confidence and made some nice shots under the watchful eye of Tiger. John is a huge Tiger Woods fan and with his late mother, started to predict and chart Tigers scores a number of years ago as a tribute to his mother, John entered the contest and used all of his past research to best predict Tigers rounds earlier this year.
Showing no signs of his season-ending knee surgery a week after the U.S. Open, Woods wore a green caddie's bib inscribed with Abel's name as he guided him around the back nine of the South Course, where he has won six times in the Buick Invitational and once in a U.S. Open he called his best ever.
Playing with torn ligaments in his left knee and a double stress fracture in his leg, Woods made a 12-foot birdie on the final hole to force an 18-hole playoff, made a 4-foot birdie on the 18th in the playoff to stay alive and finally won with a par.

Participating Futures Under 16 Olympic Development Athletes included; '08 Junior Olympics Gold Medal Winner Carly Schoch Bonita Vista H.S. '10, and '08 European Hockey Federation Barcelona training camp attendee Sophie Edelman Torrey Pines H.S. '11.
