I had a conversation today with Tommy O'Haver, the director of AN AMERICAN CRIME. The film is based on a horrifying event that happened in Indianapolis in 1965. A young girl, Sylvia Likens, was tortured in a basement for months by a woman named Gertrude Baniszewski, her children and some neighborhood kids. It's a real life "Lord of the Flies." Needless to say the film is very, very intense. People who know O'Haver for BILLY'S HOLLYWOOD SCREEN KISS and ELLA ENCHANTED, will be startled by the ambition and power of this film. He elevates is from what could be a court TV reenactment into something that is haunting, eery and deeply moving.

For those who don't know. An American Crime was filmed in 2006 but never made the theaters in the U.S. It did have a premiere on Showtime on May 10th 2008. This movie is based on a true story. Here is an idea of what it's about.
Sorry it's not as fluid as a regular movie. I only had 419 movie stills to work with.

The Music-
First part: is the actual end credits music from the movie. Courtesy of the film director himself, Tommy O'Haver. He was nice enough to create a special .wav file for me at my request. The music (except for a piano at 4:18) is one woman's voice, Petra Haden. She recorded her voice over and over, about twenty times, to "sing" the music written by Alan Ari Lazar.
The second part: is Loreena McKennitt, Night Ride Across The Caucasus. From "The Book of Secrets" CD.
It took three months of figuring out how to save this video because Windows Movie Maker would not save it like my others. I don't know why. I got it done though. Hope you like it. Please comment on it.
