This game still gives me chills watching it. MJ had that look that was beyond serious. After losing Game 3 in 3OTS, Kevin Johnson bragged about holding MJ to 44pts. Thus, MJ came out in Game 4 with a look of stoic madness. Becoming just the 5th player to score 50+ in the finals, he tied Rick Barry for 2nd highest all time in the Finals with 55 pts. But, the manner in which MJ played was just jaw-dropping - capped with a vicious last shot, MJ-style. Suns' coach Westphal said, "I don't think MJ could guard MJ. I'm as much in awe as everyone else. He's the best offensive and defensive PG ever, the best offensive and defensive SG ever, the best offensive and defensive SF, and he's probably top five at PF and C."

What a sneak preview of that year's Finals. With the Bulls meeting the top-winning team that year in the Suns, we all knew MJ would raise his game and enter his zone - which he obviously did. MJ mixed in his regular amazing shots with some rarities you'll ever see anyone do ever and today: a half-court, lefty-drive dunk, a fast-break stop/pop jumper and a ridiculous, finger-roll. Hitting 61%, MJ made disgusting shot after shot to bring the Bulls down from 11 to tie it up with seconds left in the game. Fortunately for the Suns, super PG Kevin Johnson came through with some amazing, slithering drives and Barkley punctuated the end with his own clutch, power shots in the waning seconds. But MJ's masterful performance was just a harbinger of what was to come later in the finals that year, which we all know of course.

SOHO observations of the Sun's outer atmosphere (FeXII at 19.5nm)
The level of solar activity goes through a cycle of maxima and minima with one cycle lasting roughly 11 years. In 1996 the Sun was around minimum, and in 2000 it reached maximum. In 2007 the Sun is again around minimum at the end of the cycle (no. 23).
The level of solar activity is matched by the number of sunspots on the Sun's surface. Sunspots are regions with an increased density of magnetic field lines that pass through the Sun's surface. Inside these regions, the surface is some 2000 degrees cooler than normal and therefore appears dark (in visible light), creating the distinctive appearance of sunspots.
Usually sunspots occur in pairs, with two sunspots of opposite sign as defined by the direction of the local magnetic field: N (outward magnetic field) and S (inward magnetic field). The relative position of the N (north) and S (south) sunspot is dependant on the pair's location on the Sun's surface and also changes with each solar cycle.
During cycle 23, on the Sun's northern hemisphere the orientation of all sunspot pairs is to have as leading and trailing spot the N and S spot, respectively, with respect to the Sun's rotation. On the southern hemisphere the orientation is reversed with the S spot leading and the N spot trailing.
With the next solar cycle this orientation is flipped in both hemispheres, as the Sun's global magnetic field reverses its orientation.
As a new cycle begins, the number of sunspots with the reverse orientation will increase and the ones with the orientation of the old cycle will decrease in number. In the transition period they can both occur on the Sun, as the two cycles have no sharp boundary and overlap.
SOHO constantly monitors the Sun and will continue to observe the evolution of the sunspots and the solar activity during the new solar cycle, which will culminate in the solar maximum in about 5.5 years time. Solar scientists predict that the upcoming solar maximum will be very active and could even be the most fierce in decades.

Here he is getting 41 just after hitting 40 against Cleveland at age 38 and a half. I assume that Dan Majerle brought out the inspiration in Father MJ due to memories of the 1993 Finals and unfortunately, The Young Matrix got in the way and took some abuse in the process. Hitting the zone and 17 shots, MJ notched 41pts on 17 buckets at 57% without even taking a trey and only needing 7 free throws. This was MJ's zone alone and even at this age, MJ's will, creativity and ability to improvise and stack the highlight reel were miles above the young'uns.
