| Crooked Rot - 259 sec
A return to the stop-motion here with Crooked (Orcus) Rot. This started off as an experiment to see if stop-frame would be any better using an SLR camera. The result would certainly suggest so visually, but it was a hell of a lot harder. This project really began when I discovered a treasure cave of strange items in my own back yard including mannequin heads and rubber hands. It inspired me so much that every time I returned I gathered more inspiration. Originally I focused on capturing light which is why the SLR was so important, but eventually it almost became a sequel to Hell with all the blood flying about . Composer Marcus Fjellström who donated some of his music for Men From Up The Stairs became interested in the project when I posted a few screen shots on Newgrounds and went on to compose the entire musical score. This is interesting because it's the first time that I have made a video first and then sent it to someone else to do the music.
This video is 100% stop-frame. There is no CGI, after effects or computer filters used to create any of the effects.

Auf diesen Seiten gibt es nähere Infos zum Musikprojekt von Markus Henrik, in dessen Rahmen "ROT" entstanden.
Das Video wurde in Bochum, Hamm, Karlruhe und Auckland (Neuseeland) (genau, wo sonst) hergestellt.
Ja, sie waren damals alle ein Teil der deutschen Studentenbewegung der 1960er Jahre: Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Joschka Fischer, Matthias Beltz, Udo Knapp, Benno Ohnesorg, Rudi Dutschke, Hans-Jürgen Krahl, Rainer Langhans, Margarethe Nimsch, Johnny Klinke und viele mehr. Die meisten von ihnen organisiert im SDS oder im APO. Bei den Demonstrationen erklangen Parolen wie: Klassenkampf statt Volkskrieg! Keine Bomben auf Vietnam Springers Schreiberhorden halfen Benno morden! Macht kaputt was euch kaputt macht (mit dem Jahre 1970 die Vorlage für die Band Ton Scheiben
Das Feinbild klar definiert; ganz oben auf der schwarzen List: Axel Springer, das Verlagshaus in Hamburg mit seinem Flagschiff der BILD-Zeitung, welche mit zahlreichen Schlagzeilen die Studentenbewegung attackierte. Allein im Jahre 1968 titelte die BILD-Zeitung unzählige unzweideutige Schlagzeilen wie:
Stoppt den Terror der Jung-Roten jetzt!
Dutschke dreht an einem dollen Ding...
Studenten drohen: Wir schießen zurück
Das ist Terror!
Die ``Rote Garde'': Polit-Gammler
Unruhestifter unter Studenten ausmerzen
Randaliert - des Krawalles wegen
Berlin wird ihnen eine Antwort geben!
``Jetzt wird aufgeräumt!''
``Laßt Bauarbeiter ruhig schaffen! Kein Geld für langbehaarte Affen!''

Das war den Berlinern zuviel!
Doch es stellt sich die Frage, was dieses spannungsgeladene Verhältnis von damals im Jetzt bedeutet. Nun gut, „Macht kaputt was Euch macht", ein schöner Song von Ton Steine Scherben, den man immer mal wieder gern hört. Nostalgische Filme zum Leben von Uschi Obermaier, Rainer Langhans in ihrer Kommune ("Das wilde Leben")... na schön, wer's braucht. Und sonst??
Das Video Rot von Markus Henrik reflektiert die Forderungen, Kodizes und Lebenskonzepte der damaligen Studentenbewegung und hinterfragt, was heute von den Idealen noch übrig geblieben ist. Nicht viel, außer Nostalgie lautet eine Antwort. Doch nicht alle der vermeintlichen „Generation Praktikum" wollen dies heute so einfach hinnehmen. Wer sich der „Generation Protest" zugehörig fühlt, der lehnt sich auf: Gegen Studiengebühren, gegen Neoliberalismus, gegen Entpolitisierung und gegen die Auflösung von demokratischen Strukturen.

Updated: Just to be so kind and solve the mystery for all of you that wonder about the apples - they are real and even from a tree in my garden. No wax, no plastic, no radiation, they're just damn tough apples. ;) When you skip from the end to the start, you can see a little difference though, they started rotting at the base and sunk down a little. All in all I learned too - green apples rot pretty slowly. :)
This time it was one full month that I had it rotting in my basement.
I'm surprised I got featured again :D

This video was done by Sebastian Kutscher, a friend of Stefan's and visual designer from Cologne who had previously done videos for Kreidler, Jan Jelinek or Antonelli Electr. The idea of the video goes back to some of the programms that Laszlo Moholy-Nagy did in the 1920s. Sebastian wanted to take the fixed shades of the photogramms and bring them into motion. Later on he would use a filter that created the hairy effect. The cats were Stefan's input to bring the artificial worlds into correspodence with nature which was what the tulips on the front sleeve of Amateur View were already about.
