| HUGO CHAVEZ by Greg Palast. Part 1 of 3 - 313 sec "TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VENEZUELANS OPPOSED TO PRESIDENT HUGO CHAVEZ..."
The caption let us know this South American potentate was a killer, an autocrat, and the people of his nation wanted him out. The caption continued: "[Venezuelans] marched Saturday to demand his resignation and punishment for those responsible for 17 deaths during a coup in April. 'Chavez leave now!' read a huge banner."
There was no actual story in the Chronicle -- South America simply isn't worth wasting words on -- just the photo and caption. But the Chronicle knew no story was needed. Venezuelans hated their terrible president, and all you needed was this photo to prove it.
And I could confirm the large protests. I'd recently returned from Caracas and watched 100,000 march against President Chavez. I'd filmed them for BBC Television London.
Armed Madhouse Greg Palast Hugo Chazez Venezuela Oil Economy
You'd think George Bush would get down on his knees and kiss Hugo Chavez's behind. Not only has Chavez delivered cheap oil to the Bronx and other poor communities in the United States. And not only did he offer to bring aid to the victims of Katrina. In my interview with the president of Venezuela on March 28, he made Bush the following astonishing offer: Chavez would drop the price of oil to $50 a barrel, "not too high, a fair price," he said — a third less than the $75 a barrel for oil recently posted on the spot market. That would bring down the price at the pump by about a buck, from $3 to $2 a gallon.
But our President has basically told Chavez to take his cheaper oil and stick it up his pipeline. Before I explain why Bush has done so, let me explain why Chavez has the power to pull it off — and the method in the seeming madness of his "take-my-oil-please!" deal.
Venezuela, Chavez told me, has more oil than Saudi Arabia. A nutty boast? Not by a long shot. In fact, his surprising claim comes from a most surprising source: the U.S. Department of Energy. In an internal report, the DOE estimates that Venezuela has five times the Saudis' reserves. However, most of Venezuela's mega-horde of crude is in the Continue reading 'George Bush Should Get Down on his Knees and Kiss Hugo Chavez's Behind' Auteur : minidish Tags:VENEZUELANS RE-ELECT PRESIDENT HUGO CHAVEZ | | Greg Palast Reports: BBC NewsNight- Vulture Funds - 352 sec Investigative journalist Greg Palast reports on one company that has won the right to collect $20 million from the government of Zambia after buying its debt for $4 million. investigative reporter Greg Palast, produced by Jim Lockhart. We
edited it down to fit on our half-hour show. Palast's speaking tour,
the "Armed Madhouse Tour," is funny and very sharp politically. In the
portion we present, he speaks about how the last two presidential
elections were stolen, with considerable attention to what were the
smoking gun details of how it was done. With the presidential election
campaigns already off and running, it is not too early to remind people
that the electoral system is broken. Greg Palast is a very watchable
speaker with important things to say. As more and more people turn away
from the conservatives and toward our side, the issue isn't will they
come to us, but rather what will we tell them when they arrive. This is
some of the important stuff we have to say. http://www.gregpalast.com
