The meaning of the Gayatri mantra is as follows:
We contemplate the glory of Light illuminating the three worlds: gross, subtle, and causal.
I am that vivifying power, love, radiant illumination, and divine grace of universal initelligence.
We pray for the divine light to illumine our minds.
Meaning of the individual words:
Om: The primeval sound
Bhur: the physical world
Bhuvah: the mental world
Suvah: the celestial, spiritual world
Thath: That; God; transcendental Paramatma
Savithur: the Sun, Creator, Preserver
Varenyam: most adorable, enchanting
Bhargo: luster, effulgence

| Medicine Buddha Mantra - 500 sec
The mantra, or even the name of the Medicine Buddha (Skt: Bhaisajyaguru, Tib: Sangye Menla, Chin: Yaoshi-fo, Jap:Yakushi) is beneficial.
Ven. Thrangu Rinpoche has said that a mantra is essentially an elaboration on the deity's name, and that any mantra is the shortest possible form of the sadhana. The Sanskrit mantra of Medicine Buddha is:
Tayata, Om, Bhaishaye Bhaishaye Maha-Bhaishaye Raja Samudgate, Svaha.
or, pronounced the Tibetan way:
Tayata, Om, bekandzeh, bekandzeh maha-bekandzeh, radza samungateh. Soha.
'May all beings benefit from the sublime love and power of Sangye Menla' is often given as the meaning but it is not a literal translation.
Since the practice of Medicine Buddha is considered a Sutrayana practice (i.e., based mainly on scripture) no empowerment is necessary, but it is good to attend one or to ask for one when you have an opportunity.
Khenpo Karthar has said that the practice of Sangye Menla also has been found beneficial in cases of mental illness. And it is said that even hearing the name Sangye Menla only once has benefits for subsequent rebirth, for the Medicine Buddha made 12 vows describing the various ways he can help sentient beings with their sufferings.

Below is a short description of Tara which I have taken off the net:
Green Tara (Dölma) embodies the female wisdom and activity of the mind. She is also called the 'Mother of All Buddhas,' and has many peaceful and frightening or wrathful emanation forms.
The legend of Tara's origin is that Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of Compassion, was looking down from his heaven on the world of suffering beings, and he wept to see that more and more of them were in pain. From the tears streaming down his face two Taras were born, a peaceful white one from the left and a fierce green one from the right.
Her attributes are light blue upala-flowers . She is adorned with jewels and precious cloth, sitting on a white moon-disk. Her right leg is outside the lotus flower, which symbolizes her continuous activity, alertness and her determination for quick active help. Her hands are in the gesture of granting protection and freeing from fears.
As the first Dalai Lama put it, just by being called to help, she instantaneously saves the faithful from attacks by the following eight calamities
: lions (pride);
wild elephants (delusions);
forest fires (hatred);
snakes (envy);
robbers (fanatical views);
prisons (avarice);
floods (lust);
demons (doubts)
The followers of Green Tara believe that her special powers will help overcome dangers, fears, and anxieties, and that she will grant wishes. She is compassion in action and is particularly worshiped for her ability to overcome the most difficult situations.
