| Total Lunar Eclipse - February 20, 2008 - 31 sec A timelapse of the total lunar eclipse on February 20th, 2008. Recorded with still images. Thanks for the feature! peteherron.com
The image shakes because the moon moves during the night, obviously. It's hard to keep the moon in the exact same spot of the frame while it's constantly moving. The sound was from video that I recorded for the purpose of giving the timelapse a more real-time feel to it. Thanks for all the discussions. | Lunar Eclipse in Timelapse - 209 sec A Timelapse film of the Total Eclipse of the Moon 3rd March 2007.
Shot and edited in the same night, and uploaded to YouTube before daylight.
Filmed in the night Sky above Godalming, Surrey, UK.
I filmed this using a Sony PD170. The whole eclipse was filmed in real time, then speeded up in the edit. Everything is real, all the zooms and the flare happened as you see them, nothing was added in the edit. Everyshot is locked off and one pass of the moon across the screen represents about 15 minutes of real time.
Note the aeroplane that passes a couple of minutes into the video.
Thanks to Tom of Ginger Beats for the music.

ABSTRACT
NASA has announced plans to return to the Moon with both robotic and human exploration. Site selection is the keystone to lunar planning and drives the lunar program in terms of both near-term and long-term planning.
To support site selection and ensure continued public support and enthusiasm for NASA's new lunar program, a comprehensive lunar database is needed to distribute lunar data and lunar data products in an easily accessible... Auteur : Google Tags:google howto lunar database supporting |

"lunar eclipse"

Jeff Holubitsky, Edmonton Journal
Published: Monday, August 28, 2007
The story goes that in 1504, Christopher Columbus frightened native leaders in Jamaica by predicting a total eclipse of the moon and attributing the blood-red natural phenomenon to angry gods.
The Caribbean island's inhabitants, even more impressed with the explorer's supposed ability to convince the gods to return the moon to its normal shining state, then provided him with the provisions to continue his voyage.
Columbus had timed his meeting with the leaders to coincide with information from his astronomical almanac to get what he wanted.
----------------
"Today, we almost take these things for granted," astronomer Frank Florian of the Telus World of Science in Edmonton said.
On Aug. 28, the moon again goes into darkness across most of Canada, lit only by a red glow from the sunlight bent by the earth's atmosphere. The early stages of the eclipse will start at 4:51 a.m. EDT, but the true darkness will begin at 5:52 a.m. EDT.
"They are not as rare as total solar (or sun) eclipses," Florian said. "In the span of about 10 years or so, you will probably see about five total lunar eclipses, approximately, because it can vary a bit."
The last time the earth completely blocked the sun's rays from reaching the moon over our part of the world happened in Oct. 27, 2004. A partial lunar eclipse occurred on March 2006.
The next total lunar eclipse will take place on Feb. 20, 2008. The one after that will occur in December 2010.
Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse requires no special equipment and presents no danger to the eyes.
Telescopes can help viewers see shadow of the earth encroaching upon the valleys, craters and mountains of the moon, but the eclipse is visible with the naked eye if the weather allows it, Florian said. "And binoculars are great." Auteur : henryjanok Tags:lunar eclipse Calgary August28 2007 |
