| Diamagnetic levitation - 39 sec
A neodynium iron boron magnet is levitated between two pyrolytic graphite plates. The levitation is stable and requires no active servo or external energy. The stack of larger neodynium iron boron magnet provides the main lifting force and the pyrolytic graphite plates create a region of stability. This secret is the fact that the pyrolytic graphite is strongly diamagnetic. Bismuth (also diamagnetic) will also work in place of the pyrolitic graphite. I have left this levitator alone an it will maintain the levitation for weeks on end.
If you like levitation, look also at the Levitron. The levitron is also interesting but will not levitate forever like this device will.
I also like meisner effects and have a sumarium cobalt magnet that will levitate above a yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO) superconductor.

The device on the left is home built and designed by me. It has an electromagnet on top that pulls the levitated object upward until it breaks an invisible infrared beam. When the beam is interrupted it lowers the magnet field by feedback through a tickler coil which is wrapped around the levitation coil. The whole circuit oscillates normally around 400hz but can go through and beyond the audible range depending on the mass of the levitated object and distance from coil. The device on the right is a partial kit I order from arttec.net it comes with electronics only and uses a hall sensor. The mounting fixture is not provided.

| Electromagnetic Levitation hardware test 1 - 197 sec
This is a test of the 5th version of my electromagnetic levitator. The board is custom designed for my application and contains 4 motor(magnet) drivers, 8 opamps, a hex inverter, and an ATMEGA168 microcontroller. The board is sampling the Hall effect sensors in response to the computer asking for a specific channel. The board then returns the voltage that channel sees to the computer. The computer then plots a point to the screen.
