LAHORE PML-Q Punjab President Chaudhry Pervez Elahi Sunday warned that seeking help from the International Monitory Funds (IMF) would be fatal to the government which had already failed to deliver.
The former chief minister was addressing a press conference at the Muslim League House after chairing a meeting of the party members who were awarded tickets to contest general election, 2008, from Lahore. Pervez Elahi said rather than approaching the IMF, the rulers should have waited for the decision of the Friends of Pakistan. He said both federal and Punjab governments were working on the same agenda and just deceiving the nation as the PML-N was playing the role of friendly opposition in the Centre whereas in Punjab it was in coalition with the PPP. To a question, he reiterated that the PML-Q would support scrapping of 58 2 (b) but added that it was also commitment of the PPP and PML-N to abolish it after the polls. To a question about rifts within the PML-Q and revolt by party leader Hamid Nasir Chattha, he said those terming the party leadership inactive and non-functional were in fact non-functional in the party.
