Thanks! ---- I live near one of the busiest stretches of railroad in the U.S., so I spend a fair amount of time in my car waiting at railroad crossings. I was on my way home late one night, waiting for another train to pass, when I got the idea for this song. It's pretty folksy. Hope you like it. Coal Train Coal train rolls by into the sky It rattles the night Rain on the street, jazz in the air Keeping time with the light Black car passes by, catches her eye It's gone like a ghost Of all the eyes she's looked into She misses his the most The wheels roll on One glance and it's gone He dreamed of a ship, got his wings clipped Went down to the tracks He wanders the road Looking to lose the load on his back He can go for miles with Miles and Coltrane's saxophone The melody soothes like her voice and he knows he's not alone Chorus She wonders how much he's changed Has he let his hair grow? And does he recall all the things She wants him to know? She marks the days with flowers But she hides them away Somehow she doubts it's enough To convince him to stay Chorus © 2008 Leesha Harvey http://leeshaharvey.com

Leesha Harvey-- Beautiful Destruction (Original) - 350 sec
*Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: My low-tech music video put with my original music. Necessary equipment included Windows Movie Maker, a used digital camcorder purchased off of eBay, and a small container of blue Play-doh. ;-) I've tried to add some extra instrumentation to this song, so it may sound better with headphones or good speakers (probably can't hear the bass through a laptop!). All the songs I write have a large part of me in them, but this song is probably more personal than most. I usually refrain from giving too much explanation for a song, hoping that my listeners can relate to it without being swayed to think of it one way or another... but I will say that this song sums up the ongoing conversation I've been having with the Lord for the last several months... Beautiful Destruction I listen to the music of the wind chimes on my front porch It's blowing again Is it the winds of change or just another storm about to rip the roof, flood the floors, and blow my house in The sand is slipping away I pull off all the shutters and I open all the windows So the breeze can blow through It's strong but silent As it clears out all the cobwebs and all long-held illusions I've assumed to be true The scales are falling away.... Away... (Chorus) Beautiful destruction You're tearing me apart Melting the cold logic of my heart All these years I've known You And sat with You to dine Could it be I'm seeing You for the first time? Windblown, drenched by all the rain, I stand here shocked and quite ashamed It made so much sense I chose the obvious Forgetting You're mysterious and love to work in ways that seem both foolish and weak I lost sight of Your love.... Your love... (Chorus) I lie here restless on my bed And contemplate letters in red And wonder if You really meant all the things You said I took Your words and qualified them Till I practically denied them And presumed to speak as one who knew You well... Leesha Harvey-- Always Will Be - 221 sec
*Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: OK, it's time for a love song! I just wrote this one in the last couple days. Hope you like it. As always, apologies for the crappy sound quality--lyrics are below. Always Will Be Is this my seat? Did you save it for me? Am I the one for whom you've waited so patiently? You give me these flowers You show me that smile Would it be alright if we just sit awhile Is this our song? We don't have to dance We can sit and watch all the others with their romance You take my hand I'll take what I've heard You've said it all with unspoken words And when the light goes out And these feelings leave no trace And you start to doubt 'Cause the shadows hide my face Know this is true, I'm here with you, and always will be Is this my pain I'm holding so tight? Dare I throw it in your face To prove myself right? Time slips away And so does my pride Still it's my joy to walk by your side And when the wind blows cold And your demons chase you down And this life seems old And no purpose can be found I'm tried and true, I'm still with you, and always will be. © 2007 Leesha Harvey

Leesha Harvey-- Sorry, Love - 235 sec
*Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: Here's another song I wrote--it's supposed to be an upbeat little ditty about being depressed (ha!). Enjoy! Sorry, Love I'm sentimental And I'm a bit existential And I'm quite temperamental You're well aware You call me a blessing Though I'm downright depressing and I'm usually obsessing when I shouldn't care But what can I do Chorus: Hey love There's nothing I can say, love No words left to pray, love It's all been said and done and done before I know I should Convince myself to feel good Oh, but even if I could It wouldn't last the day I'm sorry, love I guess I'm just made this way I've tried to change myself Tried to rearrange the shelf That holds the thoughts within my head You put up photographs And pretty things to make me laugh But I'm pulling down the shades instead As you throw up your hands... (Chorus) I know you got so much more Than you ever bargained for When you intertwined your life with mine (Chorus) © 2007 Leesha Harvey

Leesha Harvey-- Wounds (Original) - 253 sec
*Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: My new website: http://leeshaharvey.com !!! I know I've been MIA on the Tube for a while... I apologize that I haven't been keeping up with your comments or making comments on your videos. And I had to resort to the ol' crummy webcam for this one... sorry, couldn't be helped! :) This song is based on the proverb "Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses." Sometimes there are so many people telling us what to do, it's hard to sort out the good from the bad... and the one we should listen to is often the hardest to hear. Wounds Shored-up defenses Like privacy fences Welcome the enemy But keep out the friend Hits and near misses Of traitorous kisses Flatter at first But they kill in the end Chorus: So bring on the wounds that heal Show me which weapon is real As I put my arms down Would you put yours around me? I'll welcome the wounds, my friend Critics and mockers and Occasional stalkers Rivals and renegade foes in disguise Fans and well wishers And good advice-dishers how will I see through my ever-vain eyes? (Chorus) The portcullis is up, the draw bridge is down The white flags are flying all around Pacing the look-out, watching for you My sweet-footed messenger, tempered and true Time will reveal if the things that I feel Align with reality or just with my fear Though I feel busted, these wounds can be trusted Blowing away all the smoke from the mirrors (Chorus) © 2008 Leesha Harvey

*Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: Recorded in one take in my kitchen. Tuning: D A D F# A D (Capo 1) Don't Hold It Against Me A hint of recognition A little bit of danger in your eye This room isn't big enough We can't avoid it even if we try The person between you and me Makes introductions awkwardly But we both pretend we've never met before You shake my hand then look away And I search for some smart words to say But then again you've heard them all before Chorus: Don't hold it against me I know I said too much and I bled too much in your arms But that was then, and if you were me, You'd have done the same, you'd have done the same thing Don't hold it against me Loneliness can drive you Down the roads you never meant to go I thought I was wiser But you knew things I guess I didn't know I wonder how it must have seemed As I worked my way into your dreams But I never meant to get the best of you Drowning, hoping you would save And taking everything you gave I never knew what my pain put you through Bridge: We're just standing here in silence When something makes you laugh And I see the spark that I loved back then And I'm wanting you all over again, I'm wanting you all over again Yes I'm wanting you all over again © 2008 Leesha Harvey

Leesha Harvey--Patience to Endure (A Lament) - 213 sec
*Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: I finally found the courage to put up my first YouTube video (I'll probably regret it tomorrow!). This is a song I wrote about a month ago for my brother. I apologize for the sound quality--my webcam isn't really made for music recording. I've included the lyrics since they're kind of hard to hear: Patience to Endure (A Lament) Empty hands on the corner Hollow faces at my door Crying eyes on my shoulder Always begging me for more Plastered smile in the pulpit Cheerful voice in the crowd Broken heart in the quiet A whisper crying out loud Chorus: It's not clear what the hell I'm doing here I thought that I knew once now I'm not sure I can only guess why I'm walking through this wilderness And if I'll have the patience to endure Are they taking me for granted Are my words misunderstood Can they see through my tired eyes Sometimes I wish they could (Chorus) Are you trying to tell me something Did I hear you wrong Is all of this for nothing Have I been mistaken all along It's not clear what on earth I'm doing here I thought that I knew once now I'm not sure I can only guess why I'm walking through this wilderness And if I'll have the patience to endure © 2007 Leesha Harvey

Leesha Harvey- Coffee and a Smile - 199 sec
*Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: I've finally got around to recording another song! I'm trying to figure out a better recording set-up than just my little webcam, so while I think this is an improvement, I realize it still needs work. (And I know I'm flat on several notes--my allergies always freak out this time of year and it messes me all up! Bleh!) I wrote this song for two great loves in my life--my husband and coffee. ;) Brew a cup and enjoy! Coffee and a Smile What kind of day is it going to be I hardly slept a wink The sky looks gray, I feel so blue And I can't help but think The best thing I could do Is hide out under cover for a week or two Then I see you bringing me Coffee and a smile Can we sit, can we sit, can we sit for a while As I drink this bitter cup down Stay with me, stay with me, stay with me for a while Cause you're the best medicine I've found It feels like a weight is pushing me down A rock that's got me pinned beneath it I wait for a break, a light through the clouds It's close but I just can't reach it Back down in my usual slump Just another round of my life in the dump Then there's you, bringing me coffee and a smile There's no remedy that I haven't tried When will I bless this thorn in my side I'll drink this cup down, I usually do But it seems to be sweeter with you © 2007 Leesha Harvey

*Update* A studio version of this song is available on my album: http://cdbaby.com/cd/leeshaharvey or go to my website: http://leeshaharvey.com ******* Original description: Footage from my March 1 gig at the Blue Moon Coffee Co. There was a great turnout--standing room only! I have a few pictures on the homepage of my website--be sure to check it out! Thanks! http://leeshaharvey.com Penny in the Pocket Ginger goes round on her merry-go-round She drags her hand in the dirt to try and slow it down Comes to a stop, she jumps to the side And curses the kids who were pushing the ride She plays it safe, she's counted the odds One too many risks might anger the gods She tiptoes lightly, out of the way To secure a safe arrival to her dying day Hey Chorus: Penny in the pocket Run until we fall They say we don't have enough But we know we've got it all No worries for tomorrow There's enough for today We're just rag-tag lovers And we wouldn't have it any other way Billy aspires to build empires with quarterly returns to buy what he desires A sure-fire way to get what he lacks He builds his wealth on someone else's back His nest is safe and his house is full Too bad he didn't take more stock in his soul He pinched and planned, scrounged and saved For some well-lined pockets to pad his grave Hey Chorus The prince withholds, the pauper gives The good man dies, the despot lives They can hide it away, safe in a box And hope they outlast the rusty locks Chorus © 2008 Leesha Harvey

Leesha Harvey- What Can I Do (Original) - 224 sec
About a month ago I received an e-mail forward from a friend... it was meant to be humorous, but I didn't think it was very funny. The e-mail implied that anyone who is poor or has need of some sort of governmental assistance ended up that way simply because they are lazy and irresponsible. I know firsthand that is simply not true. I wrote this song fairly soon after receiving this e-mail, as a response to this unfortunate stereotype. I thought I'd do a rather light-hearted video to go along with it. Enjoy. Sounds best with headphones! :) And I apologize if it's out of synch... it was lined up perfectly before I uploaded it. What Can I Do They talk entitlements or safety nets and bottom floors All I know is what I make doesn't buy half the things that it did before And no, I'm not asking for much But the doctor's talking surgery and insurance just won't pay The banker keeps on calling, wants to take my house away What can I do now What can I do now What can I do now That it's all gone They're forming bread lines in this nation of wealth But you won't spare your pocket change to help feed someone else And no, you don't owe me a thing But you're burning up my wallet as you're drilling up the sky While I'm scraping bottom looks like someone's riding high Chorus You can call me crazy But please don't call me lazy 'til you put my shoes on and you walk about A sweaty brow and calloused hands Are no guarantee That you won't ever do without Chorus © 2008 Leesha Harvey

Leesha Harvey-- Now and Again (40 Feet) - 229 sec
Good news! My CDs are done and sitting in boxes in my living room! However, it will still be a couple weeks before they are available for purchase online via downloads or on CDBaby. Rest assured that I will make a video letting you know when they are ready! (I should have videotaped the dance I did when the UPS guy delivered the CDs this morning! Ha!) If you would like to hear some of the tracks from the album, check out my Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/leeshaharvey Just FYI, the album is a full studio recording with drums, bass, electric guitar, accordion (yep!), etc., so it is going to sound different (better!) than my YouTube versions. I hope you like it as much as I do! This is a new song that I just wrote this past week... I know I've been absent from the 'Tube a lot lately, so I wanted to get a video up! I'm not sure what to name it--"Now and Again" or "40 Feet" or both. Your suggestions are welcome. :) Now and Again (40 Feet) It's 40 feet from the top to the bottom Of this hole that I find myself in You used to visit, used to look down when convenient, Do you know how long it's been? But I don't need your condescension Or your petty sympathy I just need for you to hold the rope You once threw down to me Could you send to me a simple word, a passing glance Just to know that you think of me Now and again I'm just an apparition sitting in the corner All alone, I've been left here for dead You catch a glimpse and then I get a little hopeful But you walk on by instead I don't need your rapt attention Or your undivided love I just need to know that once in a while I'm the one you're thinking of Chorus I know what you're thinking, but don't you think it Cause I won't ask that, I won't ask that of you I just want to know if everything my heart is saying is somehow getting through (yeah) Am I getting through? Chorus © 2008 Leesha Harvey

Leesha Harvey-- All We Need to Know (Original) - 225 sec
I wrote this song for my husband for his Valentine's Day present this year. I wasn't sure if I was going to put it on YT, but this week seemed like a good time to share it. :) All We Need to Know Doughnuts and coffee Two in the morning Talking 'bout how we looked at life You didn't know it But that was the first time I dreamed about being your wife We went out walking A cold night in Denver You gently explained your well-laid plans But I was relentless Must have convinced you On the way back you held my hand Chorus: Who know if the story's written down Or if we make it up as we go Is there a secret to be found Or do we know all we need to know Making a promise Learning to keep it Choosing to love despite our fears Thunderclouds rolling Tears overflowing Love that deepens with the years House by a cornfield Middle of nowhere But our dreams could fill the earth We may not have much But we trust that What we have is of greater worth Another sun goes down and there's a danger Of turning from best friends into strangers But we'll fight against the tide We grow tired and we grow older We fan the flame as the world grows colder But we know love can abide © 2008 Leesha Harvey
