| Zacharie...a homeless cat - 194 sec
Zacharie has been living for nearly a month in our little 'cat' house out front of our place. I've added a heat lamp to provide a bit of relief from the cold at night. On the 19th of Dec. I finally decided to take some video footage of our homeless friend. Although I'd like to bring him inside, we simply can't (in fact we'd also like to adopt out a couple of recent rescues too). Although I try and reassure myself that these minimal steps are a comfort to him, I know that many cats (especially those abandoned by their guardians) do not last long, especially when forced to endure the winter. The visible scars that cover Zacharie's lower back attest to this difficult struggle. Though his health has improved, I no he has been lucky as the weather has been unusually mild. In 2001, transsexual activist, sex worker, and performance artist Mirha-Soleil Ross was elected Grand Marshal for Toronto's annual LGBT Pride Parade. This was done in recognition of her hard work on behalf of the transsexual, transgender, and sex worker communities.
Dressed as the Lady of the Beasts, she emerged from the deep urban woods with her pack of coyotes to lead a performance celebrating the actions and victories of the underground Animal Liberation Front and to show support for all the courageous activists who every year risk their freedom to liberate animals from places of exploitation and abuse.

We had just been listening to Benjamin's music, to his voice; we were extraordinarily inspired by his unique way of speaking about animals, about vegetarianism... Last winter, a big, messy cat started coming regularly to our front door. While terribly unfriendly, I got attached to him rapidly. He was in poor shape: limping on three legs, dirty, malnourished, emaciated... I got antibiotic from our very lovely vet, Doctor Omeara (Blue Cross Animal Hospital) and some de-worming pill. I started adding vitamin C, cat vitamins, Omega 3-6-9 oil, and grounded pumpkin seeds with the antibiotic to his food every time he came by... I would first give him a spoon of his favourite food mixed with the supplements and medication, make sure he'd eat it, and then would give him as much food as he wanted. Within 3-4 days, he started to walk on four legs again and within a month, he started to put on some weight.
Now winter is back and I don't want him to fight, struggle, and suffer through two more months of these long, cold, and deadly nights. We took this video on Jan.19/2007...last night the temperature dropped to -20 celsius. This morning the cold was so harsh Mark had great difficulty breathing while riding to work! This cat is feral and will for sure be a handful! I've been feeding him for almost a year and he still couldn't care less about playing or socializing... Once he's eaten, he pisses on the bush and leaves. He has no gratitude whatsoever, which makes me actually even more dedicated to him.
I would like to take him to the vet to be fixed and to be given a check up for worms, fleas, and upper respiratory infection...to give him a chance, see if once fixed, he'll calm down a bit and reconsider our offer to stay inside!
If someone would like to donate some money to pay for his neuter, or donate some food to help with his feedings (we've fed him nearly everyday for almost a year!) we can arrange for you to pay the veterinarian directly. Anyone with a car willing to give us a ride to the vet would also be helping a lot.
My paternal grand-father was a tough man... difficult to approach.
I gave his name —David-Noah— to this equally charming, but farouche cat.
