Singer/songwriter Shona Laing was just eighteen when she represented New Zealand at the 1973 World Popular Song Festival with her own composition: "Masquerade". The young guitar-strumming, composing folk-singer impressed the folks at Yamaha, she finished a strong fourth place and won an Outstanding Song award.
Shona went on to have a long, storied career, moving to London, recording with Manfred Mann, then returning to New Zealand where she recorded her biggest hits: "(Glad I'm) Not a Kennedy" and "Soviet Snow".
NOTE: This is the original recording from Shona's debut LP, "Whispering Afraid". The master tapes of this album seem to have been lost. The version found on the "1905-1990: A Retrospective" CD is a re-recording made in 1990.

Canadian born Corky Laing is probably best known as the drummer with Mountain. Corky Joined the band shortly after Mountain played at the famous Woodstock Festival although he did receive a gold disc for sales of the soundtrack album after over dubbing drums on Ten Years Afters' performance.
Whilst with Mountain Corky Laing recorded three studio albums with Mountain before the band split. Following the split Corky along with Mountain guitarist Leslie West formed a rock three piece with former Cream bassist Jack Bruce. West Bruce and Laing recorded two studio albums and a live album before West and Laing re formed Mountain al0ong with Felix Papplardi.
Since 1974 Corky and Leslie have led Mountain through various line ups and recordings and continue to record and perform today at numerous concerts across the world
In addition to his work with Mountain Corky Laing has recorded one solo album and formed the band Cork with former Spin Doctors guitarist Eric Shenkman and recorded a further two studio albums with the band which has also featured former Jimi Hendrix bassist Noel Redding.
More recently Corky Laing and Leslie West published their own book of on the road stories entitled Nantucket Sleighride and other On The Road Stories which sold exceedingly well.
Stick It is the next stage on from the book and on this double CD audio book Corky Laing re tells many of the stories associated with working in a leading rock band over the last forty years. The stories are told in an incredibly frank, engaging and amusing manner and will appeal also to those people who may not necessarily be fans of Corky Laing's work with Mountain and as such should appeal to fans of rock biographies.

Flushed with success, Kiwi singer/songwriter Shona Laing was encouraged to submit a second song to Japan's World Popular Song Festival in 1974. Though her song "Rainbow" was certainly emotional and heartfelt, it didn't make it out of the semi-final. Perhaps the subject matter of a bleak, polluted future was deemed too depressing?
NOTE: This is the original recording from Shona's 1975 LP, "Shooting Stars (Are Only Seen at Night)". The master tapes of this album seem to have been lost. The version found on the "1905-1990: A Retrospective" CD is a re-recording made in 1990.
