www.windaction.org - For a couple months now, most of the windmills on the old Bethlehem Steel property haven't been turning at all. Norman Polanski, Lackawanna Mayor, "They're not turning plain and simple that's what everybody keeps callling me about, the windmills aren't turning." ... A Clipper Vice President tells me the plan now is for a crane to arrive next week to take all of the gear boxes down send them back to the factory in Iowa, and then replace them one by one throughout the winter. The towers will still stand but the blades will have to come off of all eight wind mills. It could be March or April before the job is finished.

For the second year, Steamtown hosts the annual Lackwanna Railfest; featuring special excursions and visting equipment. This year was no exception, because Saturday's event went off without a hitch. During the first segment of the video, we will watch the 'Whistle Stop' special make it's 3rd stop at Moscow, from Cresco, PA enroute to Scranton, PA. Featuring a pair of former D&H ALCo RS3s, the motive power on the front was very colorful. During the second segment of the video, we travel back to the golden age of steam, as ex-Canadian National Mikado #3254 puts on a grand show for everyone, especially at Moscow! So sit back, and enjoy the first video of this annual event.

After coming back from a 4-0 deficit against North Pocono to tie the game in the 6th to go to extra frames, Nicky I hits a homerun with a man on in the 7th inning as the young fans chant "Nicky", to propel the Lackawanna LL All-Stars into the District 17 title game. North Pocono then came through the loser's bracket to face Lackawanna again in the championship. Lackawanna went on to win that game behind the pitching of and another home run by Nicky I. It was the 2nd time in 3 years that this very team had gone on to win the Pa District 17championship. Congrats!

The D-L, one of GVT's railroads, is a short line based in Scranton,Pa. They interchange with CP in Taylor and NS at Slateford. Here trains are assembled and moved in Scranton at the Steamtown yard and then move out to their destinations, mostly along the Pocono mainline. This is an all Alco motive power railroad. The pounding noise in the background is from the work to replace the nearby Lackawanna Ave. road bridge.
