On the occasion of the exhibition Peter Doigthe artist talks about his paintings while being accompanied by the camera during the installation of the exhibition.
Peter Doig is regarded as one of todays most crucial and internationally influential artists. Presenting some 50 paintings, a group of works on paper, and about 130 painted film posters, the Schirn offers a comprehensive overview of the artists achievements from the past twenty years. Many of the works on display have never been exhibited in Germany. One focus of the show will be on works Doig created in Trinidad within the past five years and on painted posters produced for his cinema project STUDIOFILMCLUB in Port of Spain, Trinidad. On the occasion of the exhibition, Doig will also set up a special STUDIOFILMCLUB in Frankfurt, screening films selected by the artist on Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m. between 15 October and 26 November 2008. Although on the one hand Peter Doigs pictures relate to the history of painting, they are firmly anchored in present-day life on the other. He often uses travel brochures, newspaper images, film stills, or private snapshots as his point of departure. They reflect the changing scenes and social environments in which the artist has lived: the frozen lakes of his childhood in Canada, the dazzling metropolis of London, Caribbean sceneries, and the cityscapes of Trinidad. In his visionary landscapes, whose quiescence seems to be most precarious, memories, biographical moments, popular images, and narrative plots congeal to form dreamlike sequences.

Anlässlich der Ausstellung „Peter Doig" spricht der Künstler anhand von Gemälden in der Ausstellung über sein Werk und wird von der Kamera durch den Aufbau der Ausstellung begleitet.
Peter Doig gilt als einer der maßgeblichen und international einflussreichsten Maler der Gegenwart. Anhand von rund 50 Gemälden, einer Gruppe von Arbeiten auf Papier und rund 130 gemalten Filmpostern zeigt die Schirn einen umfassenden Überblick über sein Schaffen der letzten zwanzig Jahre. Viele der ausgestellten Werke waren bisher nie in Deutschland zu sehen. Einen Schwerpunkt der Schau bilden Gemälde, die Doig in den vergangenen fünf Jahren in Trinidad geschaffen hat, sowie gemalte Poster, die für sein Kinoprojekt, den STUDIOFILMCLUB in Port of Spain auf Trinidad, entstanden sind. Anlässlich der Ausstellung wird Doig zudem einen eigenen Frankfurter STUDIOFILMCLUB einrichten, in dem vom 15. Oktober bis 26. November 2008 jeweils mittwochs von 19 bis 22 Uhr ein vom Künstler ausgewähltes Filmprogramm gezeigt wird. Peter Doigs Gemälde beziehen sich einerseits auf die Geschichte der Malerei und sind andererseits fest im heutigen Leben verankert. Ausgangspunkt für seine Bilder sind oft Reiseprospekte, Zeitungsfotos, Filmstills oder private Schnappschüsse. Gleichzeitig spiegeln sich in ihnen auch die wechselnden Umgebungen und Gesellschaften, in denen der Künstler gelebt hat: die gefrorenen Seen seiner Kindheit in Kanada, die schillernde Metropole London oder die karibischen Landschaften und urbanen Szenerien Trinidads. In visionären Landschaften, deren Ruhe jeden Moment zu kippen scheint, gerinnen Erinnerung, Biografisches, populäre Bilder und erzählte Handlungen zu traumartigen Sequenzen.

Anna sang verschiedene Lieder zum Thema Risiko, dieses finden sich tatsächlich auch in der klassischen Musik-Welt, und begeisterte die anwesenden Gäste.

Houdini and the US football star Jim Otto, struggle against the resistance of constructed and natural boundaries of the human body. Like the magician and the competitive sportsman, Barney relies on the physical dynamics continuously oscillating between self-control and energetic impetus. For the artist, who was a sportsman and model himself, the genesis of the artwork is based on overcoming one's self-imposed boundaries. He uses gymnastics, climbing, and weight-lifting as performative subjects, turns into a fantastic kid satyr, or boards a Japanese whaler as an "occidental guest" to unite with his love -- Björk. This location of a mythical parallel world distilled from cultural-historical elements of Japanese Shinto, Western performance-oriented thinking, and industrial aesthetics sees the reinvention of the Moby Dick story culminating in an "erotic communion", in which the lovers are transformed into whales and enter a state of oceanic being. With DRAWING RESTRAINT, Matthew Barney, who regards himself as a sculptor, extends the notion of sculpture to include almost every visual medium and combines performance, video, photography, installation, film, and drawing to a fascinating total work of art.

30.09.2006, CH Locarno TI, die Ausstellung "kunsthalle?" neigte sich dem Ende zu. Doch vorher tauchte Tom Huber in die Katakomben des alten Fabrikgebäude und präsentierte seine Performance. In totaler Dunkelheit begegneten die ZuschauerInnen dem "Weissen Mann" und konnten ihn bei der Arbeit, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes, während ca. 75 Minuten beobachten.
