De gemeente Den Haag levert een bijdrage aan de vernieuwing door in Zuidwest op belangrijke plaatsen invloedrijke gebouwen neer te zetten, met een functie voor het publiek. In het stadskantoor kunt u straks terecht voor verschillende diensten.
Wat komt er in het stadskantoor?
In het nieuwe Stadskantoor Leyweg komen het stadsdeelkantoor Escamp, een bibliotheek en gemeentelijke kantoren. Naar schatting gaan hier ongeveer 1.000 mensen werken. Het totale vloeroppervlak van het gebouw is ongeveer 27.000 m².
Waarom op deze plek?
De gemeente heeft, behalve het Stadhuis, nog diverse kantoren in de stad. Enkele daarvan zijn verouderd. Deze kantoren vervangen door een nieuw gebouw is goedkoper dan ze opknappen. Het Stadskantoor Leyweg komt op een belangrijke plaats, vlakbij het nieuwe winkelcentrum Leyweg en aan de toegang vanuit het Wateringseveld. Voor de bezoekers van het winkelcentrum Leyweg is het makkelijk te vinden. Voor de bewoners van het Wateringseveld is het gemeentekantoor dichtbij.
Het Stadskantoor Leyweg zorgt voor een opwaardering van het gebied en de vorming van een mooi, veelzijdig en levendig centrum.

Immersing himself in the glamorous world of supermodels and slick TV shows, he finds his misconceptions about the country his parents came from challenged and his opinions changed.
Arriving in the country for the first time in 20 years, Atta gets himself into a press conference for the Lux Style Awards -- Pakistan's equivalent of the Oscars. Befriending A list stars, he finds a country in the grip of a television boom.
At one of the myriad satellite stations broadcasting a diet of music, fashion, and drama he sees how television is influencing the aspirations of modern urbanites. To get in on the act, he tries out for a part in a top drama, but in a toe curling audition, finds his Urdu is not up to scratch.
He meets some young men obsessed with modifying sports cars and asks they think of the more traditional art form of truck modification. Culture, they say, is not interesting for them. Dazzled by the highly skilled workmanship that goes into truck decoration, Atta begins to suspect that modern Pakistan is out of touch with its own traditions.
To investigate further, he tries his hand at modelling. Eager to find out exactly how far girls will go when it comes to flesh content, he meets the country's top models. However, even the most modern Pakistanis, it seems, are not willing to bear flesh. Being modern he learns, does not mean being western.

To many he's the Mother Theresa of Pakistan. Every day Sattar Edhi collects the dead from the streets of Karachi for burial.
Around him, one of the world's biggest cities is descending into chaos. Edhi's massive graveyard outside Karachi looks like a war cemetery. In a back street police pick up yet another victim although there is little hope of catching his murderers. Karachi's economy is fuelled by drug dealing, gun running and bribery. It's a black joke that when the police hear gunfire, they run in the opposite direction. A millionaire businessman has developed Karachi's only computerised investigation system to try to control crime. But avoiding the battlegrounds is becoming more difficult. We follow one injured woman to hospital where there's little hope of saving her life. Small businesses and shops are too afraid to open and it's difficult to sell anything legal. For many of Karachi's orphans Sattar Edhi is their only hope. Interview with Benazir Bhutto.
