osaka's answer to the running of the bulls. hehe osaka is known for its boisterous residents, and on this supposedly buddhist day of observance. no grand stately parade of shrines here like in kyoto. instead the locals gulp down sake and then race around the narrow streets and shopping centers while pulling 3-4 ton mikoshi (portable shrines).
i saw 2 paramedic vehicles, a shorn roof and a chopped telephone pole (?)
how japanese-- and once the mayhem was over, everyone picked up their trash
