Beth Archie - Kinship and the Social Lives of African Elephants - 4111 sec Female African elephants have unusually rich and complicated social lives, with close and enduring bonds and social networks that span hundreds of animals—on par with chimpanzees, dolphins, and even humans. Beth Archie, a FONZ-supported Postdoctoral Fellow in the Smithsonian Genetics Program, will talk about her work studying kinship and the social relationships of the African elephants living in Amboseli National Park, Kenya. These elephants have been studied by Cynthia Moss and the Amboseli Elephant Research Project since 1972, and are one of the best-known populations of elephants in the world.
