Los equipos de MSF en la provincia de Katanga avanzan en la campaña de vacunación masiva contra el sarampión superando enormes dificultades logísticas. En coche, en moto o a pie, los equipos de MSF están vacunando contra el sarampión las aldeas más remotas de diferentes partes de la provincia. En ella más de medio millón de menores de 15 años que será inmunizado contra el sarampión en esta región que atraviesa enormes dificultades, la principal de ella, la falta de acceso a servicios de salud y pésimas infraestructuras.

The African settlement built in the middle of Alton Towers, Katanga Canyon is an adventurous area allowing visitors to explore the wild. The two rides in Katanga Canyon are The Runaway mine train and the Congo River Rapids, each of them explores the area via a different route.
The area has its own shop called The Katanga Cargo Company, this sells Alton Towers merchandise and many other jungle goodies. And for food in Katanga Canyon there is a KFC and Pizza Hut. You can either have a take-away meal, or sit down in the restaurant. Menu's are the same as the high street chains and so are the prices. The area has a picnic area and also a games stall to keep all amused

Katanga was a break away state proclaimed on July 11, 1960 separating itself from the newly independent Democratic Republic of the Congo. In revolt against the new government of Patrice Lumumba in July, Katanga declared independence under Moise Tshombe, leader of the local CONAKAT party. The new Katangese government did not enjoy the support throughout the province, especially in the northern Baluba areas. The state is now Katanga Province, part of Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The declaration of independence was made with the support of Belgian business interests and over 6000 Belgian troops. Tshombe was known to be close to the Belgian industrial companies which mined the rich resources of copper, gold and uranium. Katanga was one of the richest and most developed areas of the Congo. Without Katanga, Congo would lose a large part of its mineral assets and consequently government income. The view of the Congolese central government and a large section of international opinion was that this was an attempt to create a Belgian-controlled puppet-state run for the benefit of the mining interests. Paradoxically not even Belgium officially recognised the new state despite providing it with military assistance.
In September, Prime Minister Lumumba was replaced in a coup d'état by Joseph Mobutu. On 17 January 1961 Mobutu sent Lumumba to Élisabethville where he was tortured and executed shortly after arrival. Belgian officers, under Katangan command, were present at the execution.
The UN Security Council met in the wake of Lumumba's death in a highly emotional atmosphere charged with anti-colonial feeling and rhetoric. On 21 February 1961 the Security Council adopted resolution 161, which authorised 'all appropriate measures' to 'prevent the occurrence of civil war in the Congo, including ... the use of force, if necessary, in the last resort'. This resolution demanded the expulsion from the Congo of all Belgian troops and foreign mercenaries, but did not explicitly mandate the UN to conduct offensive operations. This resolution was ultimately interpreted by the local UN forces justify military operations to end the secession of Katanga. Despite this new resolution during the next six months the UN undertook no major military operations instead concentrating on facilitating several rounds of political negotiations.
In June, Tshombe signed a pledge to reunite Katanga with rest of the country however, by August it was clear he had no intention to implement this agreement. In August and September, the UN conducted two operations to arrest and repatriate the mercenaries and political advisors by force. The second operation was resisted by the Katangan Gendarmerie and resulted in casualties on both sides.
Peace negotiations ensued, in the course of which, UN secretary-general Dag Hammarskjöld died in uncertain circumstances in a plane crash near Ndola, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia).
Under UN pressure, Tshombe later agreed to a three-stage plan from the acting Secretary General, U Thant, that would have reunited Katanga with Congo. However, this remained an agreement on paper only.
Urged on by Congo's leader Cyrille Adola, United Nations forces launched a decisive attack on Katanga in December 1962. The capital, Élisabethville (now Lubumbashi), fell in January 1963, and Tshombe fled to Kolwezi, where he surrendered on January 15, 1963. The Katangan secession was formally ended by the National Conciliation Plan.

This video is a fragment of Discovery Channel's Extreme Rides series, part 3, featuring the Katanga Skyscraper in Congo River Golf, Florida. A similar ride will be installed in Cedar Point in 2008.

A towering new thrill ride will debut this summer in the Challenge Park activity complex! Skyscraper will be unlike any ride you have ever experienced on the Cedar Point Peninsula. Featuring a giant propeller consisting of two arms that will spin guests in a full circle, Skyscraper is one of the most thrilling rides in the amusement industry.
Four riders, two on each arm, will sit in open cars with their feet dangling, on opposite ends of the propeller. The arms of the propeller quickly rotate in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, spinning riders 16 stories into the air at speeds of up to 55 mph. At its highest point, riders will be upside down 160 feet above the ground!
The hair-raising ride lasts approximately two minutes. Onlookers can take part in the fun by watching a live streaming video of the passengers screaming in delight as they soar through the air. Riders aboard Skyscraper will have the opportunity to purchase this memorable video after completing their thrilling ride.
Manufactured by Gravity Works, Inc., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Skyscraper will welcome its first passengers when it opens to the public in May. Skyscraper will have an individual ride fee, and admission to Cedar Point will not be required.
