In the forest Kadamba trees,there was a lingam of lord shiva under a kadamba tree.This linga is believed to be installed by Indra who came to earth to wash his sins.Indra built the sanctum sanctorum and vimanam.
Later Dhananjeyan a merchant happened to see this divine temple in the midst of the forest.At once he informed the king Kulasekara Pandyan.The kings capital was then at manavur.
