A montage of video clips and pictures of United Khmer Students' KORE program at UCLA. The video first premiered at UKS' 11th Annual Culture Show on April 19, 2008.
KORE (Khmer Outreach Retention Education) was started by United Khmer Students of UCLA in 2003 to address the low rate of Khmer youth graduating from high school and lacking numbers of the Khmer people in higher education
KORE's College Tour is an annual event where high school students are bused over to the UCLA campus where they meet and participate with UKS in workshops concerning basic college information.
KORE's Mentorship Program was established during 2006-2007 and was successful in educating and assisting Khmer youth towards higher education. UKS mentors are paired with high school students from Long Beach during this year-long program (Millikan, Wilson, Poly). The program serves to assist both at-risk and excelling Khmer students to not only graduate from high school but to consider higher education as a priority.

"This action title won't see its way onto the Xbox until 2003, but even now it looks like a unique Nintendo-style title complete with bizarre characters in an even more bizarre world.
Your grandfather is a mad scientist. Rather than follow him into a diabolical life of potential world domination, you're a goody goody do-gooder who takes grandpappy's greatest invention, the CORE robot, and uses it fight a bunch of subterranean aliens. But you're not alone in this fight against the evil aliens in your town. The four characters, Rex, Madboy, Pixie and Square join you inside the CORE robot and they take turns controlling the big fella. Each character changes the function and shape of the CORE according to their personalities. You have to put the correct character in control and use their special abilities through CORE to progress through the game.
There's plenty of running, fighting, jumping and other cool stuff you'll get to do in the CORE suit but it'll be the unique special abilities that'll set this game apart. It doesn't make sense to have one character than can jump and one that can run or something like that. It seem as if CORE is going to take it a step further so that all of the characters will have basic movement and action abilities, but it will be the special abilities of the dog character, for example, that'll bring in the fun. He'll have a unique dog's eye, first person point of view to really drive home the fact that he's not your typically hero.
The unique art and style of the game takes itself seriously enough the same way that other platform-action games can often make you forget that you're controlling a plumber against a bunch of turtles or an orange furry varmint. It's tough to figure out from the limited information available, but the scientist's granddaughter, the main character is Pixie. She looks like a prototypical kick-ass game "grrrrl" character that's going to be all the rage pretty soon here. CORE's configuration with her at the controls features some nice sharp stabby-arm poker things. Youch.
With wacky enemy names like Poxes and Boffums, the silliness of CORE is apparent and the characters will look and behave just like their names suggest. This kind of creativity is enhanced when the basic game engine itself is well designed and well applied. We'll be amused at the interactions between the different CORE robot's abilities and the crazy enemies, but only if bopping or bashing them is done in an engaging way. All of the original humor and art and storyline become trite and irritating if the basics of what we have to do in CORE aren't compelling enough.
We're especially looking forward to the interactive environments and sound elements of the game. Being able to rip off any piece of wall or structure and throw it at an enemy would be the ultimate in interactive environments, but we doubt even CORE is going to have a feature like that. Interactive environments in this case could mean destructible objects or something like that. But being able to recognize enemies by their theme music when they come around is always a welcome feature. Recognizing enemies by sound worked in Halo, why not in a game like this?"
