The Jewish ghetto in Kraków (Cracow) was one of the five main ghettos created by the Nazis in the General Government, during their occupation of Poland during World War II. It was a staging point to begin dividing "able workers" from those who would later be deemed worthy of death. Before the war, Kraków was an influential cultural center for the 60,000-80,000 Jews that resided there.
The Jewish population was first ghettoised, and later murdered. Major concentration camps near Kraków included Plaszow and the extermination camp of Auschwitz, to which many Polish Jews were sent. Jewish ghetto in Kraków and nearby concentration camps were portrayed in the film Schindler's List.

About the story:
A young Russian girl and her father are caught off guard as Germans invade "Sudilkov", a small town area on the the Russian front - the very first area to be invaded when Germany decided to turn on and attack their biggest allies. Based on true events.
About the film:
I wrote the screenplay based on several real accounts during the war and met a production designer who had worked on the film festival smash: "Saints and Soldiers." After he read the script, based on the message and story, wanted to donate all his WW2 collection to the film production. He even went on-line and made purchases to get the German soldier's correct unit/region patches correct. He made sure that the whole production was 110% authentic to period. We also made a last minute change to the script that proved to be our most part of the film. We changed the family from a Jweish family to a Russian family. During the final research process and final script drafts, Paul mentioned that over 17 million Russians lost thier lives as well. I felt it was important to tell their story, as we've seen other sides of the war have already been filmed. The whole Russian side to the war had never been filmed, at least not my knowledge, and it seemed to make the film more original - in that regard. Story is the most important part, and this seemed to be a perfect fit. Plus, we did not have access to period sets and buildings, so putting us in Utah (where we shot it) made the Russian front a much better option. We already had that Russian front feel, so things like this fell into place. Paul Dixon even plays the German captain, and on the flipside, his daughter plays the young girl. Out of all my shorts, I'm most proud of this one.
Budget/Gear:
Film was shot on $50.00 budget, all costumes and props provided by Production Designer/Museum Director Paul Dixon - all authentic to the times and period. We had a three man crew, and used the Panasonic DVX-100.
