Google Chrome Browser to Challenge Microsoft - 138 sec
Google's new Chrome web browser launched on Tuesday and represents yet another new direction for Google. Chrome is quite simple on the surface, much like Google itself, but offers some nice user-friendly features. Please refer to Patrick's blog from yesterday for a great review of Chrome's features. Today, I'd like to take a look at the deeper significance of this new browser. It's free, fast, user-friendly & safer to use than other browsers. While some speculate Chrome will not be a threat to Internet Explorer, I am not so confident. I've seen Google come from way behind to dominate the PPC industry and wouldn't be surprised to see them do it again here over time. This represents yet another assault on Microsoft.F First Google came in and dominated the PPC advertising marketplace. Then they entered another new battle-line with the launch of their online applications. Google even helped YHOO resist Microsoft's buyout advances & provided a partnership to further disrupt matters. Now this, the web browser, where Microsoft's IE currently commands 72% market share. I suspect that number will start to slowly decrease in months and years to come. Ultimately using Google Chrome and Google's various other valuable services, like Gmail or their online applications, gives Google a great deal of information about what their users are doing. One good thing about this is the likely ability to even better target PPC ads, which I think should prove to be a good thing for advertisers. http://www.JumpFly.com http://blog.jumpfly.com/

Google Advertising News - 158 sec
Google turned 10 years old on Monday. Happy Birthday Google. Ten years after 2 Stanford Grad students launched Google from a friend's garage, Google now employs 20,000 people worldwide, operates out of the 1.5 million square foot "Googleplex," overseas hundreds of thousands of computers in massive data centers, receives over 1 million applications for employment per year and enjoys a market value of $150 billion. Wow, how are they going to top that over the next 10 years? Well, they certainly intend to try, as they are continually expanding into new markets, but they are greeted by increasing opposition as various groups grow concerned over Google's growing power. Earlier this week, the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) voiced their opposition to the pending Google-Yahoo! partnership. The ANA expressed concern over the proposed agreement and the PPC search-marketing share it would provide Google. This powerful organization represents over 400 companies and 9,000 brands, including Coca-Cola, Exxon Mobil and General Motors. This mounting pressure against Google's expansion comes in addition to an existing probe by the Department of Justice, initiated to determine if Google's success and near PPC advertising monopoly, are actually harming advertisers. Privacy groups have also expressed concern over Google's collection of information for more than 650 million people who use their services. Despite increasing concern over Google's enormous and growing online empire, the team at Google is not going to let that slow them down. This week, Google partnered with NBC Universal to expand their television advertising exposure. Offering television exposure to AdWords customers is really neat, but represents yet another example of Google's increasing expansion into other marketplaces. Just last week, Google launched their new Chrome Web Browser. Add that to their search, GMail, YouTube, Maps, Online Apps, etc... This list goes on and on. Additionally, Google is also looking to pursue cell phones and other mobile devices, make digital copies of all the world's books, establish electronic file cabinets for people's health records and likely much, much more. So, what's next? Maybe taking over the world? http://www.JumpFly.com http://blog.jumpfly.com

Google AdWords Help - Finding Your Own Ads - 355 sec
Google AdWords Help - Finding Your Own Google AdWords Ad. At JumpFly, we learned that many pay-per-click (PPC) advertisers regularly search for their own companys terms to check the position of their ad relative to their competitors. As a result, one of the most common questions we receive is from advertisers who cannot see their own ads when searching for themselves at Google. There are multiple possible reasons for this, but I reviewed the three most common causes below. 1) Are you using The Google AdPreview Tool? Have you looked for yourself over and over and noticed that your ad seems to be dropping, or even disappeared? Don't worry - you are not alone, and you are not crazy. That is exactly what can happen at Google. When searching for yourself, you likely seldom or never click your own ad. Over time, this can cause a very low click-through-rate for your ads that appear for searches performed within your IP range. Google AdWords may then lower your ads position or even stop displaying your ad at the office or offices using this IP range. This will likely cause alarm and concern if not understood. This is partly why Google created the AdPreview tool. This is a powerful and valuable tool that enables Google AdWords advertisers to see what Google users are actually seeing, even in specific locations. It is great. Use it. 2) Check to see if you are reaching your maximum budget limit. Reaching your budget limit will result in Google displaying your ad intermittently. Consider increasing your budget, or reducing bids in order to assure that your ads are always appearing. 3) Review the Keyword Analysis Page To launch the Keyword Analysis page, click the magnifying glass icon beside any keyword in your Google AdWords account; then click one of the 'Details and recommendations' links. This tool provides useful messages to help determine why an ad may not be showing. Some messages include, "Poor Quality Score/ Not enough impressions/ Not high enough for first page It is important to note that the status indicated by Google may be "Active" even though the term is actually not running. These are three critical tools & strategies that every Google AdWords advertiser should know and understand before searching for their own ads at Google. Have a great day, and enjoy finding your AdWords ads the next time you search Google.

Internet Advertising News: Stock Market Crash & More - 155 sec
Internet Advertising Weekly Review: Sept 19, 2008 The stock market is crashing and it looks like we are smack dab in the middle of a financial crisis. The stock market collapsed this week, fueled by a bankruptcy by Lehman Brothers, the 4th largest bank in the US, in addition to a federal bailout of AIG, the worlds largest insurer. This is on top of ongoing labor concerns, with Hewlett Packard laying off over 24,000 workers. Plus, thats on top of the current housing meltdown weve experienced over the past year or so. Not good. Businesses are likely to put off any new or increased advertising going forward and may even look to scale back in these times of uncertainty. The next 3 months will prove how well online advertising can weather really poor economic conditions. Also this week in Internet Marketing, The World Association of Newspapers, which represents over 18,000 newspapers, said the planned Google-Yahoo! deal should not be allowed because of antitrust concerns. This comes after last week's concern expressed by the ANA, which represents over 400 companies and 9,000 brands. Googles CEO said that much of the negative publicity aimed at the proposed partnership has been stirred up by Microsoft, saying, "We're quite certain that Microsoft is busy helping people get upset about things. The Microsoft, Google War rages on. Just today, Yahoo! Launched a redesigned homepage, the most heavily trafficked site on the Web, but initially made it available to just 1% of its users. It will be slowly rolled out going forward and appears to offer some nice custom features. The new home page allows users to see when new information arrives not just on Yahoo! e-mail or Yahoo! news, but from other desired resources as well, such as eBay or Gmail. The Yahoo home page attracts more than 100 million U.S. users a month and 300 million worldwide. Thats a lot of users, and thats all for this weeks Internet Advertising Review. http://www.JumpFly.com http://blog.jumpfly.com
