Julidans: Méér dan mooie passen
Julidans beleeft zijn achttiende editie van 1 t/m 12 juli. Het festival richt de blik op de actualiteit én de toekomst van het danstheater. Met nieuwsgierigheid als drijfveer speurt het festival naar makers die méér doen dan mooie passen bedenken. Julidans toont werk van zowel bekende choreografen als aanstormend talent: als een voorstelling maar zo gedurfd, bijzonder of spraakmakend is, dat ze gewoonweg gezien moet worden. Virtuoos uitgevoerd, maar met een scherp randje. Het festival heeft ook een naam te verliezen als het gaat om het introduceren van de jongste ontwikkelingen in de Afrikaanse en Aziatische hedendaagse dans.
Hofesh Shechter, een van de 'hotste' jonge choreografen in Londen, opent Julidans met Uprising / In Your Rooms. Twee voorstellingen vol lichamelijkheid en provocatie; politiek en uiterst persoonlijk.
Brickland is de nieuwste productie van de Argentijnse choreografe Constanza Macras. Zij liet zich inspireren door Brickland, een 'gated community' in Buenos Aires.
Voor zijn nieuwste productie bahok werkt de Britse choreograaf Akram Khan samen met componist Nitin Sawhney en het National Ballet of China.
Van Nanine Linning gaat tijdens Julidans een nieuwe voorstelling in première. In Dolby plaatst zij haar dansers in een omgeving vol gevaar en onvoorspelbaarheden.
Een bijzondere samenwerking is die tussen het Zuid-Afrikaanse gezelschap Via Katlehong Dance, Robyn Orlin en Christian Rizzo. Het resultaat is Imbizo e Mazweni, twee choreografieën voor negen dansers.
Het jonge Nederlandse gezelschap T.R.A.S.H. maakt zeer fysiek, bijna gewelddadig danstheater. Hun nieuwe voorstelling íSA beleeft haar Nederlandse première tijdens Julidans.
De Chinese groep Zuhe Niao toont The Left Cheek. De titel verwijst naar de verering van alles wat links was tijdens de Culturele Revolutie, en is een aanklacht tegen alle vormen van dictatuur.
Nieuw in Julidans is Hiroaki Umeda. De Japanse choreograaf, danser, beeld-, geluid- en lichtontwerper brengt twee solo's: while going to a condition en Accumulated Layout.
In Julidans NEXT stellen de choreografen uit het hoofdprogramma van Julidans een veelbelovend talent voor aan het publiek. Cinedans, het internationale dansfilmfestival, vindt plaats van 3 tot en met 10 juli.

De slotavond van Julidans wordt een poëtisch nachtelijk avontuur met sensuele dansperformances op onverwachte plekken. I Like to Watch Too voert u door alle hoeken en gaten van Paradiso, geleid door de verlokkingen van de dans. We zien korte dansvertellingen en prikkelende performances, variërend van dance-poems tot pop-ups, soms in samenwerking met een live act, dan weer in duo met een DJ of VJ. Naarmate de avond vordert, raakt u meer en meer betrokken bij wat er gebeurt en danst u, voor u het weet, zelf mee in een dansvoorstelling.
