A un paso de dar el mayor salto de su proceso de internacionalización está hoy la petrolera estatal Enap.
Y en esta aventura no está sola, sino que unida a dos de las más grandes -y, en un caso, polémica- petroleras sudamericanas: Petrobras y la venezolana PDVSA, que pertenece al gobierno que lidera Hugo Chávez.
En Ecuador -donde la chilena ya está presente, aunque con operaciones menores-, la firma liderada por su gerente general, Enrique Dávila, está cerca de comenzar las tareas de exploración y, eventualmente, explotación, del yacimiento ITT, gigantesca zona petrolera en plena selva amazónica, participando de un consorcio de cuatro actores que completa la china Sinopec.
Zona de protección
Si bien se trata de un descubrimiento que data de mediados de los 90, los sucesivos gobernantes que ha tenido ese país se habían negado a explotarlo, debido a que se ubica en una zona de protección ecológica, en plena selva amazónica.
Pero la caída drástica de las reservas petroleras que sufre hoy Ecuador -y que incluso pone en duda su permanencia al interior de la OPEP- obligaron al actual Mandatario, Rafael Correa, a reconsiderar esta postura. Ante la situación, ofreció a estas cuatro compañías iniciar los trabajos de explotación en ITT, llamado así porque agrupa a tres pozos petroleros: Ishpingo, Tambococha y Tiputini.
Esta oferta contenía un "pero": el pago de un royalty de US$ 350 millones anuales para compensar los eventuales daños ecológicos que se produzcan. La respuesta de las compañías fue afirmativa, y en su respuesta precisaron que, antes de iniciar los trabajos, debían ampliar los estudios existentes, lo que implicaría una inversión de US$ 350 millones.
"Lo que hay en Ecuador es un crudo pesado y, en algunas partes, ultra pesado. Es similar al que existe en la faja del Orinoco (Venezuela), que requiere prerrefinar el crudo o mezclarlo con otros petróleos, antes de venderlo en el mercado spot. Estamos hablando de inversiones importantes", explicó una fuente local al tanto de las negociaciones.
La decisión del gobierno local será tomada a más tardar a mediados de año. Si la respuesta es afirmativa y los estudios satisfacen al consorcio, las empresas deberán construir numerosas instalaciones para prerrefinar este crudo, para así transformarlo en rentable. Estas instalaciones y el resto de la infraestructura necesaria para sacar petróleo que sea económicamente rentable costarían, según el gobierno ecuatoriano, hasta US$ 10.000 millones. No obstante, esta decisión del gobierno de Rafael Correa ha levantado fuerte oposición a nivel local e internacional, ya que se considera que explotar el petróleo de ITT significaría destruir una zona considerada como uno de los "pulmones verdes" del planeta.

Se estima que el consorcio debe invertir US$ 10.000 millones.
El exitoso paso por Ecuador
Ecuador es, por estos días, uno de los mayores orgullos que tiene Enap. En ese país ha desarrollado un fuerte trabajo de exploraciones -con algunos pozos ya en producción- que van en franco crecimiento, en sociedad con Petroecuador.
Además, han obtenido varios reconocimientos, entre los que se cuenta un destacado lugar en la última encuesta Great Place to Work en ese país.
Pero Enap también mira Venezuela, donde tiene otra oferta en la franja del Orinoco.

You're either using CO2, or your using compressed air. Compressed air is the same as high pressure air, nitrogen system, HPA, etc
The air you breath is about 78% Nitrogen, 20% Oxygen, 2% CO2 or misc. So many people call compressed air "Nitrogen" because it's mostly nitrogen.

Putting oil into the fill nipple is what causes paintball tanks to explode.
If your fill nipple is leaking, take it to the store or field for repair. NEVER put oil into the fill nipple, your tank WILL explode.

So the first 30-seconds of this is for the people expecting roaring exhaust note, crazy acceleration, reckless driving. The rest of it (although you can't feel the lateral-G's on your end!) is a pretty tame yet spirited drive down California's gorgeous Pacific Coast Highway. (PCH)
The drive was a blast and I wish it were my daily commute! Tight corners, cliffs + amazing views, changes in scenery and weather... there's a lot to see there!
I'd just picked-up my car from HPA Motorsport in Vancouver, BC back in February, when this was shot .... and decided to drive South toward Los Angeles, and made sure to include this in the trip's itinerary/road-map.

F.Y.I. I was able to make it from Seattle to San Francisco in like 13-hours flat I believe (800mi), including stops for gas and drinks on the way. This was thanks to a car that can do 0-60mph in just over 3-seconds, has over 600HP, AWD, and tops out at 205 MPH.

Picked-up my VW Golf R32 from HPA's facility in Vancouver, BC earlier this year after having them install their FT575 Twin-Turbo conversion... co-developed with HGP Turbonachrüstung GmbH (Germany).
Didn't want to go without visiting them, so I flew up and did a little road-trip to Los Angeles afterward (through Seattle and San Francisco as well) -- then had them pickup the car from there instead for its return to Boston!

Second Annual visit by Didier Socka of the Manengouba Foundation at Hyde Park Academy. This year he was accompanied by Bernard Tchoula to begin planning major infrastructure upgrades and changes to a secondary school in Nkongsamba, Cameroon. The topic discussed with the Hyde park Design and Build students: were a 1/2 kilometer drainage system to alleviate the flooding due to the 4,060 mm annual rainfall and installation of a wireless communication system not only for the school but the community at large.
The plan is to send five students next spring break 08-09 on a short exchange visit.

Ascariasis is endemic in India and many developing countries; however, impact of this ubiquitous parasite on human health had never been quantified. In fact, this human infection had been identified as benign without any major potential for disease.
Over the years (1982-1995), I and my colleagues got interested in public health importance of this human infection. In an endemic area in Kashmir, we identified that the commonest manifestation of this infection was due to peculiar but natural behavior of this large motile organism to explore human orifices, this time, papillary orifice of the bile and pancreatic ducts. In doing so, the hapato-biliary and pancreatic ducts are freely traversed. Ascarides make repeated visits into and out of the ducts till at some stage of the travel they die in the duct (death dance of biliary demon). During its repeated but limited exploration of papillary orifice and advance into ducts, the person comes down with severe hepato-biliary or pancreatic disease, the nature of which is predictably defined by the numbers and placement of the Ascarides in the ducts. We have named this disease as Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Ascariasis (HPA). The dead Ascarides in the ducts forms a nidus to the formation of brown pigment stones, leading to the syndrome of Recurrent Pyogenic Cholangitis, a disease more often known in the Orient as Oriental Cholangiohepatitis.
HPA is a disease of great public health importance in endemic areas. In Kashmir, one such area, HPA is as common as gall stones in causing biliary disease and every third patient with acute pancreatitis is caused by HPA. HPA is only second to bleeding peptic ulcer as a cause of emergency room visits. Moreover, around 12.5% of all biliary lithiasis are caused by primary brown pigment stones, placed in hepatic ducts and are secondary to aftermath of repeated Ascaris invasion into ducts.
The data on epidemiology, clinical picture, diagnostic tools, management strategies including therapeutic endoscopic interventions and of course control measures have been collected in a series of carefully planned studies and formed a series of important publications (see references overleaf).
In view of the frequent international travel and emigration of eastern population to the West, HPA can be frequently encountered by the western physicians dealing with high-risk population or in those who have had recent travel to endemic zones. In Middle East, HPA has is of special importance in view of substantial proportion of expatriate population from endemic areas.
