Cures for Mental Illness - 565 sec
Please don't think I believe this crap. People often do get better and become free of any mental disorder symptoms but psychiatry doesn't acknowledge that. In the world of psychiatry, what cures exist for mental illness. You are about to find out. This video references the top authorities of mental health in the United States. So, we have all these mental illnesses like depression, OCD, bipolar, ADHD, social anxiety disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, anorexia, and the list goes on. So, we prescribe all these drugs to people that are diagnosed with one or more of these mental disorders. Like antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin. SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are often promoted as correcting chemical imbalances in the brain but there is no proof that depression or mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain nor is there any proof that antidepressants correct an imbalance. Medications like Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall, Dexedrine, Strattera, Focalin and Metadata for ADHD. All have undesirable side effects and can damage a person's organs. Often extreme states of mind like schizophrenia are drugged with antipsychotic medications such as Risperdal, Zyprexa, Seroquel, Geodon, Haldol, Thorazine, Stelazine and Clozaril. All of these drugs are used to control symptoms only. They are not cure for mental disorders. They all have an unknown mechanism of action. Some have side effects and adverse events that can cause permanent neurological damage, movement disorders, diabetes, weight gain, impaired cognitive functioning. Truth About Mental Illness and Disease - 264 sec
http://www.encognitive.com The idea of mental illness as a biological entity is easy to refute. In 1988, Seymour S. Kety, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Neuroscience in Psychiatry, and Steven Matthysse, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychobiology, both of Harvard Medical School, said "an impartial reading of the recent literature does not provide the hoped-for clarification of the catecholamine hypotheses, nor does compelling evidence emerge for other biological differences that may characterize the brains of patients with mental disease" In 1992 a panel of experts assembled by the U.S. Congress Office of Technology Assessment concluded: "Many questions remain about the biology of mental disorders. In fact, research has yet to identify specific biological causes for any of these disorders. ... Mental disorders are classified on the basis of symptoms because there are as yet no biological markers or laboratory tests for them." Columbia University psychiatry professor Jack M. Gorman, M.D., said "We really do not know what causes any psychiatric illness." Another Columbia University psychiatry professor, Jerrold S. Maxmen, M.D., said "It is generally unrecognized that psychiatrists are the only medical specialists who treat disorders that, by definition, have no definitively known causes or cures. ... A diagnosis should indicate the cause of a mental disorder, but as discussed later, since the etiologies of most mental disorders are unknown, current diagnostic systems can't reflect them." Psychiatrist Peter Breggin, M.D., said "there is no evidence that any of the common psychological or psychiatric disorders have a genetic or biological component." http://www.encognitive.com

Recovery: Schizophrenia & Mental Illness -- Psychology - 643 sec
Be My Friend - http://www.myspace.com/psychtruth Recovery: Schizophrenia & Mental Illness -- Psychology People recovery from schizophrenia & severe mental disorders The assumption in psychiatry that "mental illness" is permanent is untrue. Many mental health problems such as depression, bipolar episodes, anxiety & psychosis are simply temporary acute states of mind which a person can fully recovery from. Drugs like antidepressants, antipsychotics & anxiety medications can have long term side effects, may cause permanent neurological damage to the brain & in some cases and might actually slow down one's recovery. Program Summary And Objectives: "Millions of American today receive health care for mental or substance-use problems and illnesses. These conditions are the leading cause of combined disability and death of women and the second highest of men." "Improving the Quality of health Care for Mental and Substance-Use Conditions," Institute of Medicine Report, November 1, 2005; Studies are showing an alarming trend, incidents of mental illness related to drug use are on the rise. It's unclear what came first, did a predisposition to mental illness lead to drug use, or is it the other way around? No matter what, co-occurring disorders are a problem. Especially in the wake of this year's hurricanes and other disasters, mental health and substance abuse professionals need to be poised to provide additional care for those suffering serious mental trauma and who may turn to alcohol and drugs as a result. During this hour-long broadcast, hear from treatment providers about the delicate balance between treating a person's addiction and his or her mental illness. We'll also learn about the stigma attached to mental illness and how coalitions can help fight it. Hear from representatives of the American Psychiatric Association about the group's advocacy of comprehensive and non-discriminatory health insurance coverage of mental illness and substance abuse disorders. Learning Objectives: Define co-occurring disorders; Learn about the difficulty treating co-occurring disorders; Discover solutions to the problems both communities and patients face; See how community-based organizations can help improve the local climate to assist those in recovery from substance use disorders and mental health problems; Panelists: Patricia Ordorica, MD - Associate Chief of Staff, Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences Central, James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital; Associate Professor Dept. of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, University of South Florida College of Medicine; Director Addictive Disorders Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Univ. of South Florida College of Medicine. Pua's illness - 424 sec
Pua had a outing on her own(Stewie let her out) and once home went to sleep and didn't get up again. 24hrs later offered her water she drank and vomited. She pooped and thought I saw worms so took that in and got worm meds. That night she turned critical. She was turning red and purple all over. Vet was closed for the weekend and no one would see her. E-vet turned her away. My dog vet gave us supplies to see us through the weekend. We were worried she wouldn't make it. We got her ants and termites and she finally ate Sunday night. Her head swelled up after the vet visit and her being on antibiotics and vit K. It was sterptococcal toxic shock syndrome. This kills dogs too. Most vets are not familiar with it yet and most animals wont survive without proper treatment but Pua was lucky. Over the long weekend of no vets to see the only thing I found to fit her symptoms was scarlet fever, anteaters are known to get strep infections. When we could finally see the vet he was convinced it was rat poison so I dropped the idea of demanding a culture. It was a mistake. Scarlet fever is caused by a hemolytic form of the strep bacteria(or maybe they all are). Anyway that means it destroys red blood cells and her white cells were up, showing she had an infection. And the "rash" of scarlet fever's not really a rash in most people it doesn't even itch. Then I found a paper on dogs getting strep and it causing bleeding(like from rat poison). I went back to believing it was 'scarlet fever' strep. Really it's the only thing that can fit everything she went through. "The dog may soon experience spontaneous hemorrhaging including coughing up blood, bleeding from the nose, severe bruising of the skin, and in some cases bloody diarrhea." "It looks very similar to a poisoning -- similar to what can happen when a dog gets into rat poison. It's more of a toxicosis than many other bacterial infections," I'm not entirely sure she was fine when she left on her trip either. I was having to bribe her with something special to get her to eat. But she could have been messing with me. Hard to say where she picked it up or when exactly but it does fit, everything, and rat poison just doesn't. She started with extreme lethargy and vomiting then got worse. Rat poison does not cause vomiting and strep does or can. Rat poison does not cause peeling skin but scarlet fever (strep) does as it's healing. I really wish I had followed my first instincts and had them do a swab and culture, it certainly wouldn't have hurt and we'd know for sure and could have helped with the proper antibiotic. I wasn't sure before but reading that dogs hemorrhage badly from strep cases that makes me pretty convinced. It's not going to act exactly the same in each species but mix the human and dog symptoms for the bacteria together and it all fits. Even the vet from the article said it was very likely the case here. And we have updated our security measures to prevent her taking any further walks on her own.

Illness Illusion - 189 sec
This was my VERY first AMV ever!! Basically, I used the very first sing I ever heard from the famous J-pop singer named Gackt and made it the song to this AMV. It's called "Illness Illusion" and it's a semi-slow song. This AMV is dedicated to Zoro... I think... Oh well, he's in it alot. ^_^ I like how his feet go with the beat while Zoro drags Luffy in tha cage. And the part at the end with the ending instrumental part.
