Iliad Animation - 169 sec
This is an animation I made during my senior year in high school for Humanities class. It's a fight scene for part of Homer's Iliad. About 750 photos snapped on the floor in my room, put together using Animation Shop.

Tapes 'n Tapes: "The Iliad" - 156 sec
Tapes 'n Tapes are the new buzz band of the moment -- tickets to the San Fran and NYC shows are going for upwards of $75 on eBay -- and they were originally scheduled to play the Journey last Thursday. I've had a good time when I've gone to the Journey (and I certainly hope that their eviction drama has faded) but there was no way it was going to hold this show. It got switched to the Annex a couple weeks ago, and I believe it sold out anyway. Do they live up to the hype? Well, I guess they do as much as most such bands, which is to say, kind of. They're not doing anything groundbreaking, but they have an entertaining show (complete with occasional baritone playing) and I was surprised at how many of their songs I remembered, since I haven't listened to their self-released debut, The Loon, that many times. They're certainly worth seeing if you can get a face-value ticket.

Caro iRex Iliad e-ink e-book at CeBIT 2007 - 1552 sec
E-ink technology is awesome and it is about to replace the whole printing industry. The quality of this e-book is the same as printed text on white paper. Just imagine one sheet of paper that can load any of the worlds books digitized by Google Books, from Blogs, from online newspapers, from Wikipedia articles and other articles generated from user generated text content, as well as forum posts and more. There just needs to be some automatic selection of daily content as well as more features which this actual first generation e-ink product is missing like resume from ram and flash, pre-processing pages for faster page loading, currently there is about a second delay for pages to load and a slight delay for the WACOM magnetic touch-screen technology. You can watch this video in HD quality at http://techvideoblog.com/cebit/caro-irex-iliad-e-ink-e-book/

Troy - The Iliad - 600 sec
My video of the movie "Troy" (2004)based on Homer's Iliad, directed by Wolfgang Petersen, featuring Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Julian Glover and Orlando Bloom. I used the director's cut edition of the movie, and some of the scenes (Like Odysseus at Ithaca, some dialogues, Patroclus, etc). The music featured in this video is: - "Troy" from the original or official soundtrack (OST) of Troy. - The temple of Poseidon, same. - Briseis and Achilles. - The wooden horse and the sacking of Troy. - Through the fires, Achilles...and immortality. - "The World is calling" by Jeff Martin from the album "The Exile and the Kingdom" (2006). - Age of Empires : The Rise of Rome music. - "Submission" from the 300 original motion picture soundtrack by Tyler Bates. Homer (ancient Greek: Ὅμηρος, Homēros) was an ancient Greek epic poet, traditionally said to be the author of the epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey. The ancient Greeks generally believed that Homer was a historical individual, but some modern scholars are skeptical: no reliable biographical information has been handed down from classical antiquity. According to Martin West, "Homer" is "not the name of a historical poet, but a fictitious or constructed name." The poems are now widely regarded as the culmination of a long tradition of orally composed poetry, but the way in which they reached their final written form, and the role of an individual poet, or poets, in this process is disputed. By the reckoning of scholars like Geoffrey Kirk, both poems were created by an individual genius who drew much of his material from various traditional stories. Others, like Martin West, hold that the epics were composed by a number of poets. Gregory Nagy maintains that the epics are not the creation of any individual; rather, they slowly evolved towards their final form over a period of centuries and, in this view, are the collective work of generations of poets. Offline Wikipedia with iRex Iliad - Freeline Report 5.28.09 - 133 sec
http://www.freelinereport.com Democrats took the battle for presidency online by creating an attack Wiki. Dubbed McCain-Opedia, the website is based on the famous Wikimedia software, the same software that runs Wikipedia. The whole purpose of this website is to act as a tool for opposing the candidate. It gives arguments against McCain on everything from his stance on healthcare to his Supreme Court Justice picks. Unlike most other Wiki's, anyone can't just walk in and edit a page, spurring some technologists to criticize it. They say that it is against the spirit and ethos that drive wiki's. http://www.freelinereport.com/freeline-5-28-08 Fans of the real Wikipedia can finally have their cake and eat it, too. You can now take the free encyclopedia offline using the eReader known as the iRex Iliad. Much like the Sony eReader and the Amazon Kindle, this bite sized book machine uses E-Ink technology, to give you a clear and crisp book like experience. Now Wikipedia can go anywhere you want it to go. http://www.freelinereport.com/freeline-5-28-08 And if you find the iRex Iliad out of your price range, the One Laptop Per Child project just might have the ebook reader for you. They announced their next generation One Laptop Per Child computer, the XO2. Designed to be an ebook reader first and a computer second, it contains two LCD touch screen displays and is loaded with tons of free software. http://www.freelinereport.com/freeline-5-28-08 In other electronic book news, Microsoft has just closed the virtual doors on its Live Search for Books. They will no longer be scanning in books digitally, and will be turning off the Live Book Search web pages within the week. Although we are sad to see it go, it should be noted that similar initiatives are still continuing with Google and Scribd's free book scan project. http://www.freelinereport.com/freeline-5-28-08 And just in time to cover this small blow to online text, we have Microsoft announced a new incentive to get people to use Live Search: paying them. That's right, Microsoft is dishing out the cash to get users to click on paid advertisements in their search engine. They call this initiative the cashback service, and can save users between 2 and 30% off select retailers. http://www.freelinereport.com/freeline-5-28-08
