| 50 Rocket Igniter Runs - 509 sec
50 firings of the Masten Space Systems GIS2-1 LOX/IPA igniter, shown in real time. The lights show chamber pressure, IPA, and LOX. The holes along the bottom are for flame length measurement, they are 1.5" from the igniter face, 2.5", 3.5", etc. It is water cooled for these tests.
This igniter currently has 632 firings and 1578 seconds of cumulative fire time.

| Big Bang Carbide Cannon with Piezo Igniter - 326 sec
We finally got some calcium carbide for our "Big Bang" brand carbide cannon, but it wasn't "Bangsite" from the Conestoga Company. We crushed it up to make a powder and used the piezoelectric igniter from a previous video to fire the cannon. Shooting a projectile was kind of disapointing, and the bangs were not as loud as I remembered them. Might need to change the amount or quality of the carbide. | Using a Bar-b-que igniter to fire up a Streetlight bulb - 216 sec
This is an old streetlight fixture that was made for Mercury Vapor bulbs with Remote ballasts. This fixture is between 1947 to 1952. Anyway I used a custom made box I made using a bad UPS (battery backup for computers) and took the parts out and put two ballasts inside, one is a Mercury Vapor Ballast (for pleasing greenish white color lighting or pleasing white light bulbs found in roadways) and the other is a High Pressure Sodium ballast (for those more modern orangeish yellow lightbulbs also found in roadways (which I don't like very much.) In this movie both bulbs was powered using a Mercury Vapor ballast...High Pressure Sodium bulbs (HPS) needs a igniter which is built in streetlight fixtures with designed ballast for HPS bulbs. But in this experiment was an attempt to fire up a bulb using a Bar-B-Que igniter taken off from our old broken grill. Enjoy the movie. If you aren't an electrician or do not know much about electricity or afraid of them DO NOT ATTEMPT! Those bulbs can NOT be put in regular lamp sockets or there will be damage...

these igniters fit easily into bungers, mortars, rockets etc. work 100% of the time (when made correcty) and will cause quicker ignition than most other igniters, requiring only a 9 volt battery. (and obviously anything more powerful will work also)

| Maier Gas Engine Motor CLASSIC Large Flywheel Piezo Ignition - 39 sec

The Maier gas motor CLASSIC 1S, with large flywheel, uses a patented Piezo- ignition system. Because of it's large flywheel the engine can easily be operated at a very slow RPM. Through the use of Propane or butane (lighter gas) as a fuel, is releases non toxic fumes and is therefore an ideal indoor motor. The open construction of the motor allows one insight on the mechanical workings. A comfortable sound is established through two long exhaust pipes. This model motor is made of aluminum, brass and stainless steel. The engine runs on a 70% Butane 30% Propane mixture that can easily be purchased at a camping outdoors shop. This mixture allows the engine to run in the house with a window open. The spark plug is actuated by a piezo igniter.

| EVEN SMALLER BP FIRECRACKER / SQUIB WITH ELECTRONIC IGNITION - 21 sec
This was to test a firing box idea (this is the VERY rough wiring prototype!) I've had that uses no special igniter, in fact it uses no igniter at all! It has worked every time I have tested it. The firecracker/squib was 0.5g BP in a tube, the same width, but 2/3 the length of a cigarette. Tested underwater to dull the noise.

At 1:01 the spark leaps on to the metal ruler and from there it jumps to one of the lights and burns the bulb. The spark at 2:22 is special effects :D
