Robert Fisk is Britain's most highly decorated foreign correspondent. He has received the British International Journalist of the Year award seven times, most recently in 1995 and 1996. His specialty is the Middle East, where he has spent the last twenty-three years. Currently the Beirut correspondent for the London Independent, Fisk has covered the Iranian revolution, the Iran-Iraq war, the Persian Gulf war, and the conflict in Algeria. He is the author of Pity the Nation: Lebanon at War (Atheneum, 1990), and his reporting from Lebanon has brought him international attention. He was the one who broke the story about the Israeli shelling of the U.N. compound in Qana, Lebanon, in 1996.
Fisk visited Madison, Wisconsin, in April to give two lectures on the Israeli-Palestinian crisis. He brought with him film footage of the Qana shelling, as well as footage of an Israeli bombing of a Lebanese ambulance carrying fourteen people. He showed a film he made about Palestinians who had lost their homes when Israel became a state. He also showed interviews with Jews who lost family members in Nazi concentration camps, and he went to Auschwitz to show where the Holocaust took place. In one of his lectures, he made a special point of taking on those who deny the truth of the Holocaust.
Robert Fisk, a world renowned Middle East correspondent for London's Independent, currently resides in Beirut. Mr. Fisk received a Ph.D in Political Science from Trinity College, Dublin in 1985 and an Honorary Doctorate of Literature and Journalism from the University of Lancaster, England. He was The Times Belfast correspondent from 1971 to 1975, and its Middle East correspondent from 1976 to 1987. Fisk has covered the recent conflict in Northern Ireland, Israeli invasions of Lebanon, the Iranian Revolution, the Iran-Iraq war, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Gulf War, wars in Bosnia and Algeria, NATO war with Yugoslavia, and the Palestinian uprisings. Fisk was the winner of the Amnesty International UK Press Awards in 1998 for his reports from Algeria and in 2000 for his articles on NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. He was awarded the John Hopkins SIAS-CIBA prize for international journalism. Fisk is theauthor of three books: The Point of No Return: The Strike which Broke the British in Ulster (1975), In Time of War: Ireland, Ulster, and the Price of Neutrality (1982, 1983), and Pity the Nation: Lebanon at War (1990, 1992). Most recently Fisk contributed a chapter to Iraq Under Siege: the Deadly Impact of Sanctions and War (2000).

Israel Tak Akan Ragu Serang Iran Jika Terancam

Tel Aviv - Israel siap menyerang Iran jika terancam. Peringatan itu disampaikan Menteri Pertahanan Israel Ehud Barak menyusul uji coba rudal yang dilakukan Iran.
Dikatakan Barak, aksi militer memang merupakan pilihan terakhir. Namun di masa lalu Israel telah membuktikan tidak akan ragu menyerang jika kepentingan keamanan vitalnya terancam.
"Saat ini, fokusnya adalah sanksi internasional dan aktivitas diplomasi yang gencar dan cara-cara ini telah digunakan," kata Barak seperti dilansir kantor berita Reuters, Jumat (11/7/2008).
"Israel negara terkuat di wilayah ini dan telah membuktikan di masa lalu kalau Israel tidak takut mengambil tindakan ketika kepentingan keamanan vitalnya terancam," imbuh petinggi negeri Yahudi itu.
Pernyataan itu disampaikan Barak menyusul uji coba rudal yang dilakukan Iran. Salah satu rudal yang diuji tembak adalah rudal balistik Shahab-3 yang memiliki jarak jangkauan sejauh 2 ribu meter dan bisa mengenai Israel.

Syi'ah Bukan Rafidhah
Al 'Uqaili berkata, "Muhammad ibn Ismail menyampaikan hadis kepada kami, ia berkata, Hasan ibn Ali al Hulwâni Ismail menyampaikan hadis kepada kami, ia berkata, Muhammad ibn Daud al Haddani Ismail menyampaikan hadis kepada kami, ia berkata, Aku mendengar Isa ibn Yunus berkata, 'Aku tidak pernah menyaksikan al A'masy tunduk kecuali sekali, yaitu ketika ia menyampaikan hadis ini, Ali berkata, "Aku adalah pembagi api neraka." Sampailah berita itu kepada (tokoh-tokoh) Ahlusunnah, maka mereka mendatanginya dan berkata, 'Mengapakah engkau menyaimpaikan hadis-hadis yang menguatkan orang-orang Rafidhah, orang-orang Zaidiyah dan orang-orang Syi'ah?! Maka ia berkata, 'Aku mendengarnya lalu aku sampaikan.' Mereka berkata, 'Apakah semua yang engkau dengar, harus engkau sampaikan?!!
Ia (Isa ibn Yunus) berkata, "Maka aku menyaksikannya tunduk pada hari itu." (Dhu'afâ':4/46)
Dari kutipan data di atas dapat disimpulkan dua hal:
Pertama, Bahwa Syi'ah bukan Rafidhah, dengan demikian kebiasaan kaum Neo Nawashib/ Salafy/ Wahhabi yang menyebut-nyebut Syi'ah dengan embel-embel Rafidhah adalah menyahali ulama Ahlusunnah wal Jama'ah.
Kedua, Sikap keberatan yang sangat dalam menyampaikan hadis-hadis sahih tentang keutamaan Imam Ali as. sebab khawatir dijadikan senjata orang-orang diluar Ahlusunnah. Dan dengan sikap arogansi kemazhaban ini mereka berharap hadis-hadis keutamaan Imam Ali as. tidak akan tersebar dan diketahui umat Islam agar mereka dapat dengan mudah dibodohi .... dan tentunya ini sangat membahagiakan musuh-musuh Ahlulbait as. dan mendinginkan hati Mu'awiyah dan antek-anteknya yang selalu ada di setiap zaman.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah is the secretary-general of the Lebanese political party Hezbollah. Although the United States considers Hezbollah a terrorist organization, three former U.S. diplomats had a chance to meet with Nasrallah in 2006, before Israel launched the Summer war on Lebanon. The diplomats were members of a delegation organized by the Council for the National Interest.
During the meeting, Nasrallah discussed Hezbollah's strategy to free Lebanese prisoners being held in Israel. He also spoke about the origins of Hezbollah, and recollected the role that the United Nations Security Council, the United States and member states of the Arab Union played in recent Lebanese history during which, they not only made no attempt to avail the Lebanese people of the occupation at the hands of Israel - who even laid siege to the Lebanese capital, Beirut - but instead supported the aggressions against Lebanon and labelled its' resistance movements as terrorists. He also recalled the reaction following an event - that was back in the news in the latest war on Lebanon — Israel's bombing of a UN observation post in the southern Lebanese town of Qana in 1996 which killed 106 Lebanese refugees.
One of the retired diplomats who met with Nasrallah in February was Edward Peck - he spoke to Democracy Now during the last war on Lebanon on what transpired during the meeting with Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah. Edward Peck is the former U.S. chief of mission in Iraq and ambassador to Mauritania. He served as the deputy director of the White House Task Force on Terrorism in the Reagan administration
