I don't care specifically about HF Corn Syrup, although maybe I should.
WHAT I DO CARE ABOUT is the appalling genre of commercial along the lines of, "Raw sewage adds a significant amount of iron to your diet..." followed by a tiny-font disclaimer for a half a second that reads "This message brought to you by the American Raw Sewage Processors Assn."
Anytime there's an ad like this, be afraid... be very afraid. If the product wasn't hideous is some way, they wouldn't need distorted happy-face commercials to promote it.
It said they have the same number of calories. Neither of them is "safe," considering that they're both among the most effective ways of dumping the greatest amount of calories into your body with the least amount of nutrients. Your body needs those nutrients to use those calories; so they tend to get parked where you want them least.
The commercial cleverly used the words "in moderation." It's unclear to me that any amount of HFCS is "moderate," but the fact is that Americans are consuming something like 150 pounds of refined sweeteners a year.
This (along with the prevalence of white flour) is a good explanation for why type 2 diabetes - which was virtually unknown among people on native diets - is not only becoming "normal" for middle-aged Americans, but a childhood disease.
The Corn Refiners Association decided to 'show' high-fructose corn syrup was as safe as sugar. It's no different than the Tobacco industry telling us nicotine isn't addictive.
What they didn't tell you is it's banned in places like Canada and Europe. You can even buy sodas in Mexico without it in since they don't have American lobbyists writing their laws.
If you can't see that they are using the same tactics as the Tobacco Industry used in the past you are completely blind.
