Die Initiative des ZDFtheaterkanal, Filmhochschulen mit Hilfe einer Koproduktion verschiedene Projekte zu ermöglichen, wurde mit der Nominierung eines der dabei entstandenen Projekte - Ballad Battle - für den Deutschen Kurzfilmpreis LOLA 2006 belohnt.
Der Kurzfilm "Ballad Battle" ist in Form eines modernen HipHop-Videos eine moderne Reminiszenz an die sogenannte Balladenjahre 1797/1798, in denen Schiller und Goethe den wichtigsten Teil jener Balladen schufen, die seitdem nicht nur das Hauptstück des klassischen deutschen Lyrikschaffens, sondern auch die präsentesten Verse im Spruchbeutel der humanistischen Schulbildung bilden.
"Ballad Battle" wählt den Ort einer zur Unterhaltungszwecken aufgelassenen Kirche, in der zwei jugendliche potente Poeten zum Reimkampf antreten. Ein aus der HipHop-Szene vertrautes Spiel mit Animier- und Protzgehabe, mit den üblichen Verächtlichmachungen des Anderen, denn es geht vor allem, vornehm ausgedrückt, um die Damengunst.

A quick note to apologise for the mispronunciations and anywhere where the tone did not match the meaning of the words. This was the first time I'd seen many of these German words, but reading this poem aloud was a fun way of practising my German ;)
