BBC Macedonian - Ethnic Macedonians in Albania (1) - 394 sec
The BBC radio in Macedonian language broadcasted 2003 a report about the situation of the ethnic Macedonians in Albania. Albania recognizes the Macedonians as an ethnic minority and delivers primary education in the Macedonian language in the border regions (Mala Prespa, Golo Brdo, Gora) where most ethnic Macedonians live. In the 1989 census, 4,697 people declared themselves Macedonians, but Macedonian organizations allege that the government undercounts the number of ethnic Macedonians in Albania and that they are politically underrepresented - there are no ethnic Macedonians in the Albanian parliament. Some say that there has been disagreement among the Slavophone Albanian citizens about their being members of a Macedonian nation as a significant number of these Slavophones are Torbesh and self-identify as Albanians. External estimates on the population of Macedonians in Albania include 10,000, whereas Macedonian sources have claimed that there are 120,000 - 350,000 ethnic Macedonians in Albania. It should be noted that ethnic Albanians in the Republic of Macedonia, who are demanding for more rights, have more minority rights and better living conditions than the ethnic Macedonians in Albania. Voices were being raised in the Republic of Macedonia that the minority of the ethnic Albanians should recieve more rights only if the minority rights of the ethnic Macedonians in Albania are more improved (reciprocity). http://www.macedoniansinalbania.org/

Abyei's ethnic divide - 19 Mar 08 - 204 sec
Straddling the Arab North and African South, Sudan's Abyei region is traditionally seen as a cultural crossroads. Arabs and Africans have mixed freely there for centuries. But as the North and South wrestle for control of the oil-rich region, the issue of ethnic identity is dividing its people.

Long, Xian-Er (ethnic Miao) - High Tune - 525 sec
English Lyrics translated from Miao(Hmong) language: The sun rises from high Miao mountains. The painful history of Miao has gone. Dear brother, you are singing folk songs on the other side of the mountain. Your voices are so nice that I fall in love with you. However, I cannot not go there to be with you. I would like to be a gentle breeze, flying into your heart slightly. ----------------------------------- 龙仙娥 - 高腔 龍仙娥 - 高腔 Xian-Er Long is an ethnic Miao Chinese singer. She was very lucky to be discovered by Dun Tan (谭盾), a famous Chinese contemporary classical composer who is known for his Grammy and Oscar-award winning scores for the movies Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero. Dun Tan traveled to the Miao & Tujia Autonomous State of West Hunan Province in 1999. He happened to see a Song Party of the Miao people, where the Miao youth sang traditional love songs to each other. Xian-Er Long's Flying Songs and crystal clear voices attracted Dun Tan. He suddenly had an idea. Why not introduce this unpretending & pure voice to the world? He asked Xian-Er Long whether she was afraid to sing her songs at a bigger stage in front of many people. Xian-Er Long did not show any timidity. Instead, she asked, then who will sing with me? After Dun Tan came back to the U.S., he started to write his work entitled The Map: Rediscoverying the Genesis of Ethereal Music. This work is mainly based on musical elements of Miao. Xian-Er Long played an important role in this work. (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGfICNscXLE&feature=related) This is Xian-Er Long's performance in the first round of the final stage competition of the National Youth Singing Contest. She got a good grade in the first round (92.95). One might notice that three typical Miao musical instruments were used for accompany. The first one is Leaves (very cool, isn't it?). The second one is Ox-horn Pipa (牛角琴). The third one is Backbasket Drum (背篓鼓). In the lyrics, Xian-Er Long mentioned that Miao people in West Hunan have a tearful history. As I know, Miao, Tujia and Han people living in West Hunan revolted against the ethnic Manchu emperor of the Qing Dynasty 300 years ago. Since the revolt was led by the Miao King (Bayue Wu, 吴八月), many Miao people were killed in the war. The Qing court was one of the most corrupt (if not the most) governments in the Chinese history. Its officials were so avarice that they kept levying heavy taxes on the poor people. This was the reason of the rebellion. Now, Miao & Tujia people living in their autonomous states need not pay a penny to the central Chinese government. Xian-Er Long's hometown is Phenix County (Chinese pronunciation: Feng Huang Xian), which is a very beautiful town. A famous writer in the Chinese history, Congwen Shen (沈从文), is also an ethnic Miao Chinese born in Phenix County (凤凰县). ------------------------------ Referee Wang, Xianping's Comments: I am familiar with Long, Xian-Er. She was among the first group of singers who performed in the Folk Songs China, a TV program of the China Central Television (CCTV). She was recommended by my classmate, Dun Tan. He told me a story about Xian-Er. So I followed Dun Tan's suggestions to find Xian-Er. She is a Miao singer from Fenghuang County of West Hunan. She is an expert of Flying Song, which is a kind of antiphonal love songs of Miao. I invited her to perform in the Folk Songs China. Her performance was excellent. Her life is legendary. First, she is a Miao singer. Second, she was discovered by a renowned composer, who brought her to the U.S. to sing Miao songs at an internatinal stage. Then, she was supported and recommended by those famous composers and music producers to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Today I am very happy to see her again. I want to express several of my hopes on her. I hope that she may discover traditional Miao songs in her hometown. Then rearrange them and transmit them to the next generation. Discovery, rearrangement, and transmission are very important for aboriginal(primitive) folk songs. I hope you to be a person that does these work. Further, I hope that you can push the beauty of Miao songs to a higher point, and bring those true and pure Miao songs to the whole world. 十二届CCTV青年歌手电视大奖赛 十二屆CCTV青年歌手電視大獎賽 Images of beautiful Phenix County: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=%E5%87%A4%E5%87%B0%E5%8F%A4%E5%9F%8E&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2 Introduction of Congwen Shen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shen_Congwen Introduction of Dun Tan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tan_Dun Dun Tan: The Map: http://www.amazon.com/Tan-Dun-Map/dp/B0002ZYEFU

ETHNIC IDOL by Kayleb Lee Chan - 418 sec
Fuck YOUR ethnic IDOLS! My Writer's Book: http://kaylebleechan.blogspot.com LYRICS (the actual lines): So here is a piece for all the unidentifiable, left aside culture fiends Looking, for more than just some icon to be the voice they breathe We live, we seek. On behalf of who we are, is and be But I be-not some fact or figure measured by your definition of Asian Because I be-just a poet/you know it/And I got a lot/to show for it And it doesn't matter the bloodline cause race is a fine line Between skin color and those-who try to look different, between hair colors Where the Asian hair dye is blond with highlights And their mind ain't the highlight--Of what's on their head You're Asian, not Caucasian Just having blond hair won't make you-that cock...of an Asian...See we raise fists in pride but separate in unison/Like it would matter if he or she is Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Mien Hmong whatever... ...your genes do not genetically give you abilities, separate nationalities or ensure standards of what's in those jeans So do we have to continue to fight among one another? Racial wars of tears poured in the form of rain and thunderstorms Even thunderstorms can't conform a whole nation to come together, only death as we mourn the loss of another: Hurricane Katrina/Tsunami /Tiananmen Square But us, quote unquote Asians live on the same continent Eat with the same condiments/Spice/Spice/Rooster Sauce...so forget---all of you Forget your Khmer Pride, Laotian Pride, whatever pride Pride: a feeling or deep pleasure derived from ONE's own achievements. Your racial prides are lies to mask your inability to see and I'm tired of going out to shows where some artists raise fists to uplift the people.......their people. I'm tired of sitting in the audience and some individual screams...in my frigging ear, back of my mind like yeah, I'm that race!! YAY (Sarcastic)! Stop. Think. Just be quiet & and let your mind seed. Let me repeat the definition... Pride: a feeling or deep pleasure derived from One's own achievements... See we're in a race to find out who is the better race But I don't know/I thought we were all---part---of the human race Now this piece ain't about Asians. It's about the amazing Those who have stepped out of the cultural statistics/Instead of being in number systems, being stuck in the bubble/Where we're darkened in ethnic circles/Of hmm mark Black/Pacific Islander/Hispanic/Other/but...we're all brothers/Do you/Are you/A percentage in ethnic systems... Are you? .... And I'm tired of being, just being/I'm/human-being. Not Asian-being/Human-- Being. But it's hard to listen to music or poetry when an individual addresses only certain people, not THE PEOPLE I'm talking about: where all my Filipinos at? Where my brothers at?! Where my Chicanos?! Stop! Because you should feel foolish for screaming out loud or in your head...Because it is not---about---YOU. Your trivial computation in the membrane of fixated conversation with stupidity It is about those who are struggling for true...we're separated by our failure to perceive we've been disembodied by social standings between mark African-American, African, Black, White, Hispanic...what? What are you really? Nonetheless if I was to somehow get a sample of your blood Study under microscopes of science... Will I be able to figure out---you are of a jointed ancestry or of your descent or your coded in a Crayola box between yellow, white, black, magenta or purple? ...yet we've settled for a decent mind while we descent to fail our minds. ...but seriously think outside the box/Microscopic thoughts.........of why you eat, sleep and breathe because we cast more votes on American Idols/Idealistic idols... ...never to ballot our thoughts for the present mind to look beyond racial timelines...we only shoot bullets, not ballot...hurt others...never care ...but then we get tired... I'm getting tired ... and wished, sometimes I wished I had my own ...Ethnic idol... to raise fists to and scream in the back of someone else's ear... but then again I raise fists because the power of unity does not fare between nationalities, because I mean it's all comes down to a race, right? The finish line is just an inch away, but no trophy worthwhile without your ETHNIC IDOL But I be/Just a poet/you know it/my own ethnic idol/yet I've partitioned my mind to say no. I'm Individual.

The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Dr. Ilan Pappe - Part 1 - 599 sec
http://www.ilanpappe.org The present dismal reality unfolding in the Middle East has clear historical roots and a journey into the past may help to illuminate what lies behind the destructive policies of Israel in both Palestine and Lebanon. Zionism arrived in Palestine in the late 19th as a colonialist movement motivated by national impulses. The colonisation of Palestine fitted well the interests and policies of the British Empire on the eve of the First World War. With the backing of Britain, the colonisation project expanded, and became a solid presence on the land after the war and with the establishment of the British mandate in Palestine (which lasted between 1918 and 1948). While this consolidation took place, the indigenous society underwent, like other societies in the rest of the Arab world, a steady process of establishing a national identity. But with one difference. While the rest of the Arab world was shaping its political identity through the struggle against European colonialism, in Palestine nationalism meant asserting your collective identity against both an exploitative British colonialism and expansionist Zionism. Thus, the conflict with Zionism was an additional burden. The pro-Zionist policy of the British mandate there naturally strained the relationship between Britain and the local Palestinian society. This climaxed in a revolt in 1936 against both London and the expanding Zionist colonisation project. At the end of November 1947, the UN offered to divide Palestine into two states almost equal in their territorial space. The Jews were only one third of the population by 1947 and most of them had arrived in Palestine only a few years earlier. The categorical Palestinian refusal to go along with this deal, backed by the Arab League, allowed the Zionist leadership to plan carefully the next step. Between February 1947 and March 1948, a final plan for ethnic cleansing was prepared. The Zionist leadership defined 80 percent of Palestine (Israel today without the West Bank) as the space for the future state. This was an area in which one million Palestinians lived next to 600,000 Jews. The idea was to uproot as many Palestinians as possible. From March 1948 until the end of that year the plan was implemented despite the attempt by some Arab states to oppose it, which failed. Some 750,000 Palestinians were expelled, 531 villages were destroyed and 11 urban neighbourhoods demolished. Half of Palestine's population was uprooted and half of its villages destroyed. The state of Israel was established in over 80 percent of Palestine, turning Palestinian villages into Jewish settlements and recreation parks, but allowing a small number of Palestinian to remain citizens in it. The June 1967 war allowed Israel to take the remaining 20 percent of Palestine. This seizure defeated in a way the ethnic ideology of the Zionist movement. Israel encompassed 100 percent of Palestine, but the state incorporated a large number of Palestinians, the people who Zionists made such an effort to expel in 1948. The fact that Israel was let off easily in 1948, and not condemned for the ethnic cleansing it committed, encouraged it to ethnically cleanse a further 300,000 Palestinians from the West Bank and the Gaza strip.

CABOCLO IS NOT BLACK Ethnic Cleaning in Brazil - 306 sec
The Brazilian government wants finish Caboclo population. The Caboclos are the descendants of the unions of Amerindians and Europeans. They are the majority of the population of the Brazilian Amazon, more than 50% of the country's territory. They are not White nor Indian. They are not Black too, but the president Lula's government and Black movement groups wants finish the Caboclos and impose them the Black identity. Today, the General Committee convened by the Chamber of Deputies, in Brasilia, talks about the Statute of Racial Equality, the government project to finish Multiracials. HELDA CASTRO - Good morning to all. I'd like, in the person of Mr. President, congratulate the members of the Bureau. My name is Helda. I am the representative of the Association of the Caboclos and Riverines of the Amazon and I come to this platform to make an appeal to the Parliamentary because we who are from the Amazon, which represents about 50% of the our Brazilian territory, today we live without public policies directed to the Caboclos and Riverines. They classified us today as Blacks, according to the Statute of Racial Equality. We are descendants of European and White. Don't want impose us an identity. According to the Federal Constitution, the self identification is a right of every person. The war began in the Amazon. To our misfortune, Indians, Blacks, Mestizos, and Caboclos are bordering on a war because the Federal Government has imposed us an identity. Mr. President, I want to express my repudiation to the Federal Government, because we own our identity. You who are from South and South-East visit the Amazon to know our reality. We do not want to be colony of Brasilia, we want to be part of Brasilia, the Brazilian Federation. And we are very unhappy with it. Black people in the Amazon left of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia. Thus is formed the Black movement in the Amazon. I left of my state to come to Brasilia to make this denouncement. It is necessary policies for Blacks, but it is not necessary destroy other identities. There should be repairing, of course, because the Black people was brought to this country as slaves, but it is not necessary to decimate us, the Caboclos who live in the Amazon and fight for environmental preservation. Global warming is increasing, and we, the peoples of the forest, fighting for the preservation of nature. If we don't care of our forests, our region will become a savanna, the result of global warming and attack the ozone layer. We need our identity is respected. When I do lectures, share with the Black movement, the "quilombola" movement. I agree with that we need to be ahead of movements that fight for equality, but for equality for all, without excluding anyone. One who was oppressed cannot become oppressor. We are all Brazilian citizens and deserve respect. Thank you very much. Brasilia, Brazil, November 26, 2007.
