| Reactable - Electro-acoustic tabletop instrument - 213 sec
The reactable, is a multi-user electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving physical objects on a luminous table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language.
This instrument is being developed by a team of digital luthiers (Sergi Jordà, Martin Kaltenbrunner, Günter Geiger and Marcos Alonso), at the Music Technology Group within the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain.

Sound Source :
Ambience (MBNC) : The natural ambience is made of sound mechanism and has been recorded in a specific room where the noise from computer, fan and nature involves in the process. Special effects will occur when the cube coordinate is changed and the volume can be controlled by rotating the knob.
Programming Signal (BASS) : The bass sound is a squarewave signal which is made from computer programming. It is a combination of both digital sound signal (Hz) and numbering calculation. The squarewave will be transpose from -45 up to +45 according to the coordinate changes by the user.
Plucked Guitar (GTAR) : This sound is made by picking the guitar string with the palm mute technique. The produced sound is then been edited by boosting the volume. When the cube is been rotated, the guitar will be either increase or decrease the amount of the bit. Every changes of the cube coordinate will give a different effects.
Random Digital Noise (NOIS) : The digital noise is made from the programming and also the combination of acoustic recording and digital sinewave. All the noises will form a random pattern based on the minimal sound composition. There are 3 sound patterns available in this installation.
Acoustic Drum (DRUM) : The drum is based on live recording acoustic drum which consists of bass drum, hi hat, snare, cymbal, tom and drumstick. Several digital effects are added such as filter, compression and bit reduction in the drum audio sample. There are 3 different drum patterns can be played by the user.

Born Yorkshire, 1967, experimental composer based in Scarborough. My interests include sound canvasses for abstract art installations, multi-speaker diffusion and the placement of sound within various sound spaces, also computer graphics and animation accompanied by an electro-acoustic sound-scape.
Serial Expression hopefully denies simplistic analysis. Its composition follows a clear narrative within my mind, although I wish only to reveal that it is a journey of the discovery of a sense of self. This genre of music was appropriated as the ultimate form of self-expression. The noise formed by the random abstract vocal techniques create a strange and mystical sound environment .Its composition served a cathartic purpose, allowing me the luxury of indulging in my love of this genre in order to produce an electro-acoustic sound-scape accompanied by appropriate graphics. Interpret this piece how you wish but do not allow a desire for explanation stop you from actually hearing and seeing.
