July 31, 1987
Canada has had a handful of violent tornadoes. On the day of the Hermitage twister in 1985 (look for it in my uploads), the city of Barrie Ontario was devastated by an F4.
This clip is of the Edmonton twister in its developing stages, captured on home video. This tornado was also F4, and killed 27 people. Check out the massive bowl-shaped wall cloud. The multiple vortices in this thing are wild; it rivals the Oshkosh tornado of April 21st, 1974 for the most dramatic example of a multi-vortex storm.
Sorry, the quality of the footage isn't the best; it was transfered from a very old VHS tape.

This is the first of a series of storms moving through after nearly two weeks of sweltering hot temperatures in the 30's (Upper 80s) and Humidex reading nearing the 40 degree mark. Massive thunderstorms forming near Ponoka Alberta rapidly moves its way north and east into the Edmonton region toward 8:30. A Severe thunderstorm watch was issued earlier in the evening and as the storm moved through, the City was issued a severe thunderstorm Warning. In minutes heavy downpours, high winds and some hail are the result. The skies darkened rapidly. Street lights turned on though there was still more than an hours worth of full sunlight left. As the storm moved in, the temperature fell from 31°C (88°F) to 19°C (66°F) in just 10 Minutes!
Several other storms followed this one over the next several hours. These some of the sweetest cloud patterns I've seen in some time. The skies really began to turn green as shown in some of the photos at the end. Though while some areas got a pretty good brunt of the storm we still got affected, being sidetracked by quite a violent down burst. It is believed that several storms following this particular one generated a possible tornado near Wetaskiwin.
This was one of the most notable storms to hit the city in 2007 and possibly in the last couple years.

Last night around 11 PM my Beltronics STi Driver radar detector picked up a new photo radar truck - Grey Chevy Silverado (Alberta Plate FJA 109). Has a yellow bumper sticker that says "Support our troops". This was on Castledowns Road (113A Street) and around 134 Ave. They change everytime I pass by it seems. I had some fun watching it catch speeders. Here is a 2 minute video I put together. Enjoy!
