This is a video of a 2000 Chevy Tahoe which was run almost exclusively on E85 Ethanol for over 100,000 miles. The amazing thing is that this is NOT a Flex Fuel vehicle-it was not Flex Fuel ready from the factory. They probably used an E85 conversion kit, but do not mention this in the video. The Tahoe's engine was taken apart and inspected. The results prove that E85 will not harm a standard engine, fuel pump, fuel lines and other components of the fuel system. The results showed that the engine was in excellent condition. So we highly recommend that everyone use E85 however we do not recommend running a standard vehicle without an E85 converter kit. Here is some admittedly crude and simplistic testing with E85 and Oxytane. E85 will not run on a stock Briggs engine. The carb jetting is too small.
E85 requires larger carb jets because it wants to run richer than gasoline to reach a stoichometric ratio. Stoichometric means "to have a perfect ratio with air and fuel to achieve a clean burn." Gas' reference point is 14.7:1. Methanol is 8:1. E85 is around 11:1. Stoichometric values change with Oxytane, too. It richens the fuel mixture. You dial BACK the fuel to maintain the stoich ratio when you put Oxytane in. The combined effort of a "richer fuel" and the small stock jet size, the engine still runs.
Most people don't think of fuel as a variable. They think of fuel as a constant. You can tune a fuel's behavior and make it a different kind of constant. It can work for you instead of against you by alleviating detonation, improving cylinder cooling, and speeding up the burn rate.

http://www.flexfuelmyride.com We converted a 1998 Taurus to Flex Fuel in my Engine Perfomance III class. The video begins when we already attached the Fuel Flex International harness to the rear 3 injector connectors. Because this is a V6 we had to remove the upper intake plenum to gain access to the injectors. This is not the case with 4 cyl and 8 cyl engines. They are much easier to convert and can usually take less than an hour.
The conversion kit adds approx 14% more fuel to the A/F ratio and for each step on the potentiometer we can add or subtract about 2.5% (that is a set it and forget it tweak). To burn E85 (9.8 to 1 A/F Ratio), we need a richer mixture. As I explain later in the video, it should NOT run too rich for 100% conventional gasoline or too lean when running 100% E85 -- making this truely flex fuel capable without flipping a switch.
We didn't get good pictures of the kit or the installation to the injectors, but that part is really simple. The only burdensome part is pulling the intake plenum. Now if you don't want to do pull the intake, the kit can also be easily hard wired.
After several days of driving E85, the owner of this 147,000 mile Taurus has reported that she loves the way it drives! She was doing 85 mph, without notice. Had to slow down. It runs smooother and she feels more confident. Now she wants to keep it!

i converted a 5 hp briggs and stratton engine to run on E85. E85 is 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. its octane rating is 105 conmared to that of unleaded galoline at 87. E85 also cools the incomming air down about 20 degrees which makes the air denser. this makes more horse power. the increased octane rating allows for advanced ignition timing and a high compression ratio of 12:1. that makes more horse power. to convert the carburetor to E85, you must first have the right kind of carb. the older style carbs that have the carb mounted to the gas tank are the kind that are easy ot convert. to drill out the holes, use hobby drill bits because they are extreamly small. if any of you have any questions or comments, fell free to post them.
