Thank goodness I gave into the recent hype and bought my first Rufus Wainwright CD, "Release the Stars", and just out.
I was not prepared for this musical feast and I was quite literally blown away. I've since gone backwards into the RW catalogue and all I can say is his power lies in his ability to bare his vulnerabilities and yearnings oh so sweetly and with tears. I highly recommend, "This Love Affair", from the CD Want Two.
For days I could not get past Track 1, "Do I Disappoint You?" Meant perhaps by RW as an exchange between ex-lovers, repeated listenings revealed much broader themes, and ultimately I think it examins one's soul-worthiness through the eyes of the Creator.
No one is left standing nor holds a candle to the candlemaker; and here, the ulitmate angst and inferiorites rest and take voice thanks to Rufus.
This latest Imaginings Film from NHI pays tribute to the incredible talents of our new age minstrel and continues the storyline in one poor wretch by looking more deeply at the roots of his own disappointment. Who disappoints who? And, just in time for Fathers Day too!
