| Obama Talks Tough at NAACP Convention - 115 sec PlusObama Talks Tough at NAACP ConventionObama Talks Tough at NAACP ConventionThe Associated PressDemocrat Barack Obama told the nation's oldest civil rights organization that blacks must show greater responsibility for improving their own lives. (July 15)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] [Notes:Obama's entrance]Barack Obama walked right into a crowd of supporters at the 99th annual NAACP Convention and talked to them about tough social issues facing African Americans...like single parent families.sot: BARACK OBAMA: "TEACHING OUR SONS TO TREAT WOMEN WITH RESPECT. AND TO REALIZE THAT RESPONSIBILITY DOES NOT END WITH CONCEPTION. AND WHAT MAKES THEM A MAN IS NOT THE ABILITY TO HAVE A CHILD BUT TO RAISE ONE. THAT'S A MESSAGE WE NEED TO SEND."[Notes:Obama and crowd cutaways]Obama first sent that message on Father's Day to the black community. Just last week, Civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson criticized Obama in front of an open microphone for talking down to blacks. SOT: OBAMA: I KNOW THERE ARE SOME WHO SAY I'M BEING TOO TOUGH. NAACP I'M HERE TO REPORT I'M NOT GOING TO STOP TALKING ABOUT IT.[Notes:cutaways]And that type message is a winning one for members in the audience.SOT: STEPHANIE MORTON/CINCINNATI: "I DON'T THINK HE'S BEING TOO TOUGH. WE ALL HAVE TO COME TOGETHER AND ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY."SOT: RICK HARDY/CINCINNATI: "TOUGH LOVE. THERE'S A WORD IN THERE FOR ALL OF US. WE'RE RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS AND THAT'S ALL HE'S TALKING ABOUT.[Notes:cutaways from speech]The man who could become the 1st black president in our nation's history could make his home in the White House on the 100th anniversary of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People. But Obama made it clear that problems plaguing blacks won't go away with just electing him president.SOT: OBAMA: "WE NEED POLITICIANS DOING WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO AND NEED CEO'S DOING WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO AND WE NEED PARENTS DOING WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO."[Notes:standup]Even though the NAACP Convention provides a natural crowd of Obama supporters, it's actually a non partisan organization. So presumptive Republican nominee John McCain will speak here as well. His speech is expected to focus on education.Mark Carlson, AP, Cincinnati, Ohio. | DNC Convention Media Walkthrough At Pepsi Center - Denver - 1955 sec http://zennie2005.blogspot.com -- This is the video -- 35 minutes long -- of my trip to the DNC Convention Media Walkthrough in Denver, Colorado. It started with my flight to Denver on United that Monday night, which was delayed for about two hours. My intent was to get in during the day but because of the flight backup, I ended up getting in at 11 PM.
The other problem is that I'd not been to Denver since the age of 14. In other words, before I knew how to drive. So my first thought upon landing was "Where the hell am I." My second view was who do I call if I'm lost?
Yikes!
At any rate, the people at National Rental Car in Denver, were great. They gave me a Toyota Prius for rent at a cheap rate. I was inimidated just because it's a vastly different car, but after a short training session, and a drive, I was a big fan of the car.
Especially since it had a GPS device. That was a life-saver for me. Wow.
I finally got to my hotel room at the StayBridge Suite in Englewood, Co. Nice big place of a room, with a kitchen where I burned popcorn in a microwave oven. I am glad it was one night, because I couldn't even make a good pot of coffee -- it came out watery.
The next morning I got up to a bright, sunny ...and hot day. My wakeup call was 6 AM and I got going after 30 min more of slumber. Hey. I need my sleep.
After a rush-hour drive, I got to the Pepsi Center, got my credential, and made a video of interviews with Rich Grant and Chris Lopez, the communications directors for the Denver Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Denver DNC Host Committee, respectively. Grant said that he expected an economic impact of $164 million and Lopez cleared up the funding news regarding the DNC Convention, saying that of almost $40 million needed, about 70 percent, or $28 million, was raised, and that about $11 million was remaining.
Then I headed to the Media breakfast and meet and greet, where I met a number of people that I interviewed in the video and will expound more on later. Auteur : zennie62 Tags: dnc convention denver colorado event news pepsi center nuggets yes we can documentary barack obama invesco field |
| Ron Paul supporters planning 'revolt' at GOP convention - 265 sec Rep. Ron Paul is still in the GOP race and even drew 16% of the vote in the recent Pennsylvania Republican primary. Now his supporters are planning to stage a "revolt" at the Republican National Convention in September, possibly with the aim of securing Paul a prime time speaking slot.
Conservative radio talk show host Mike Gallagher told the hosts of Fox and Friends on Tuesday, "There is no question that this could be a major headache for John McCain."
"John McCain would be well-served to kind of reach out and give him an olive branch at the convention," Gallagher continued. "Let him speak, give him a role, because if these people are disrespected — you know, this, combined with Bob Barr's announcement that Barr now is running as a Libertarian, is going to just take votes away from John McCain and could be a disaster for the Republican Party."
Bob Barr recently cited Paul's success as having helped inspire his own candidacy, pointing to "what Ron Paul has tapped into in terms of reaching an awful lot of young people in particular and illustrating very clearly that in this day and age it is possible to reach a lot of young people through the Internet."
Democratic political consultant and commentator Bob Beckel then joined into the Fox discussion, saying of Paul, "I think he ought to get a prime time speech at the convention. This is the only guy that has a bobble doll made for him that his head doesn't move."
"They're nuts," Beckel said of Paul's supporters, hastening to add, "I don't mean nuts in a bad way. They're nuts about their guy."
"I think they ought to do it, Mike," Beckel concluded, laughing. "I think it would be great for you guys to have Ron Paul at your convention."
"It'll show some diversity at the convention," Gallagher acknowledged.
"That's the kind of diversity you need, brother," Beckel affirmed.

| Who knows where the time goes - Fairport Convention - 310 sec Fairport Convention were one of the most innovative and influential British bands of the late 1960's and are still recording and touring today. The lead singer during their greatest period was Sandy Denny who was in my opinion the greatest female vocalist of that or any era. The enormous emotional range of her voice has been unsurpassed by any other singer. Sandy died tragically in 1978 of a cerebral haemorrhage after falling down a flight of stairs.
