This documentary is shot to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the company Les Ballets C. de la B. Alain Platel is filming his dancers and goes back to their roots. This results in moving images when one thinks of family reunions in Burkina Faso and Vietnam. Platel is known for his unconventional approach and makes the audience a privileged witness of a new work in progress.

In this film portrait we learn more about choreographer Sasha Waltz through her work. It shows the development of her first choreography from 1992 up to her greater opera productions. The film illustrates her choreographical trilogy KÖRPER, S and nobody and her fascination with space and dance. Some of her most recent work shows the unusual combination of contemporary dance and old music, such as the opera Dido & Aeneas in 2007. This documentary allows us a glance into the life and work of the choreographer in a filmic and entertaining way.

Acclaimed Belgian choreographer Alain Platel has never shied away from shocking audiences. His work VSPRS is his most outrageous yet -- one critic calling it "the weirdest, most shocking and provocative dance performance you will ever see." The dance, made up of ten dancers and ten musicians, is performed to Claudio Monteverdi's Mariavespers, one of the most important pieces in the history of European religious music. The artists trained by immersing themselves in images of psychiatric distress, and together carve out an extremely physical and graphic performance immersed in religious and sexual imagery. In Sophie Fiennes' mesmerising documentary, the dimensions of ecstasy and trauma that form the core of the performance are masterfully captured, whilst interviews with Platel and the dancers themselves add an extra layer of insight to the performances.

The British Bengal choreographer Akram Khan, who studied both kathak as well as contemporary dance, has brought together two dance companies for his latest show bahok: his own Akram Kham Company and the National Ballet of China. The documentary Lettres sur le pont by Gilles Delmas shows us a peep behind the scenes of the cooperation between Akram Khan and his dancers, the dancers of the National Ballet of China and composer and musician Nitin Sawhney. What precedes the performance finally being shown in the theatres? Which challenges had to be faced and how much sweat did it take to merge the dynamics of the modern China, elements of Chinese folklore dance and kathak with western and classical influences?

The dance company Dance for All was established in Cape Town in South-Africa in 1991, during Apartheid. The initiators were Philip Boyd and the recently deceased Phyllis Spira. These days, the company has grown into a place where about 500 children train their dancing skills. The most talented children will be given a professional dance education. Their dreams for independence motivate them to complete this demanding education. The film Dance for All follows three ballet dancers from the townships Gugulethu and Kayelithsa in Capetown, trying to find their way in a life full of contrasts in South-Africa in 2007.
