| Cenote Carwash - 333 sec
Cenote Carwash is an entrance to the Aktun Ha cave system. I first dived here in 1995, suffering my first barotrauma to one of my ears. In May of 2008 my team mates and I return and headed for the Room of Tears, then beyond. First explored in 1985 by Parker Turner and Mike Madden, the "Room of Tears" was given her name after the two took their friend Hector Indriago for a dive to a room in the cave that Turner and Madden really loved. After the dive, the two asked Hector what he thought. He said the beautifully decorated room brought tears to his ears. Thus the name, Room of Tears. Aktun Ha hosts many other interest, including a pre-maya fire pit in the "Room of the Ancients". Carbon dating of the charcoal showed to be about 9800 years old.

65 million years ago a meteor impacted earth in an area now known as Puerto Chicxilub, Mexico. This meteor turned over an ancient marine reef full of calcium rich corals and shellfish. Some eventually turned into limestone. In this cave remnants of this reef is still evident.
