Required to determine the concentration of KOH.
The formula: (M1V1)/(M2V2) = mol1/mol2 is used
where m = concentration, v = volume and mol refers to the number of moles in the balanced equation.
You might prefer to use C instead of M for concentration, thus:
(C1V1)/(C2V2) = mol1/mol2

Some time ago I did a small clip showing how to calculate the so known chineese classical pi approximation fraction 355/113 with a mechanical calculator.
This time I repeat this calculation with an abacus.
Notice that this abacus does have a small number of columns, so I've had to change a bit the way the division is done in order to be able to fit the maximum nomber of digits of the result and the partial remainders.

Sometimes you can get lucky. This time I got an HP-38E for practically just the (local) postage. Was pretty dusty but now cleaned inside as well as outside. Can't have been used pretty much because after cleaning it now looks like it was bought like say between last week and yesterday. Almost as new you can get it without being NIB(!).
Manufactured 1979 week 26 - and it's even Y2K compliant. A really classy calculator build way better than TI's of similar age.
Being a mathematical guy I'm not into finance. Yes I can take examples from HP's homepage (12C is almost identical) and calculate them to verify function - not that I understand what it does :o) However, the date calculation I've found quite useful. As default it calculates with different month length and leap years just the way you probably want it but can also calculate according to 30 day months (must be something financial). It can calculate from 15th October 1582 to 25th November 4046 - a total difference of 899999 days. That's a whole lot more than even brand new TI's.
Day of week: 1 = Monday, 7 = Sunday.
The special battery pack was - luckily - missing. Very old NiCd's have the bad habit of leaking and thats like 50 times more aggressive/worse than having ordinary batteries leaking. While most leaking from ordinary batteries "only" causes repairable damage NiCd's are really pushing the luck.
I've made a small piece of bended metal and padded the battery compartment with foam so it now accepts ordinary AAA NiMH instead of the original flat top AA pack (regular AA doesn't fit).
