Calabash is the annual fall festival sponsored by Food for Thought, Sonoma County AIDS Food Bank, and the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center. It is a fundraising festival in honor of Life, and it is a memorial to all who have lost their life to AIDS.
A calabash is a vine grown for its fruit, which can either be harvested young and used as a vegetable or harvested mature, dried, and used as a bottle, utensil, or pipe.....that is, until Food for Thought got involved. At this unique annual event, over 100 artist create and donate beautiful gourd art for the sake of raising money for Food for Thought and their expanding projects.
This is a wonderful one day collaboration of local artist, musicians, food & wine sponsors, and a community with a whole lot of heart. Calabash Festival - a celebration not to be missed.

p: two monsters have just escaped! it was all my fault.
p: grandpa, grandpa, here is how it happened. A long long time ago, two monsters, a snake and a scorpion, descended upon this land.
With their powerful magic, they ravaged this land. People lost their homes and left this land.
Then the gods became furious. In order to save the people, the thunders were transformed into powerful calabash. the calabash trapped the two monsters inside it, then transformed into a mountain and held the monsters under it. 9999 years have passed since then. If they were to be trapped for 10000 years, the monsters would be turned into ashes.
However, due to my careless digging inside the mountain, the calabash mountain lost its hold on the monsters and they escaped.
o: oh, so thats what happened. Looks like the people are gonna suffer again.
p: grandpa, please follow me. Inside this cave, there is an artifact that can defeat the monsters. Once we get hold of it, we will be able to once again subdue the monsters.
It's here!
Grandpa, look!
This is the artifact, the seeds of the magic calabash, which the monsters fear the most.
If we were to obtain it, the seeds can get us out of here.
Then we plant the seeds and wait until the fruits come out, that is when we can destroy the monsters.
o: Great!
p: Watch out!
o: The seeds are too hot to be carried around!
p: We need leaves and mud to extinguish its fire.
o: But the cave is full of rocks, where can we find leaves?
p: Ahah, grandpa, look!
o: Haha, we did it.
