Yet another legendary, genre defining game - in an era replete with genre defining classics - in which a single player takes control of a ship trapped in the middle of an asteroid field. A number of large, slow-moving asteroids drift randomly around the play area and must be shot by the player. When shot, the asteroids will break into a number of smaller pieces which must also be shot until eventually, all of the asteroids and fragments will be destroyed and the next wave begins.
Asteroids introduced real-world physics to video-games for the first time, with speed and inertia all adding to the player's problems. As well as the inertia of the player's ship - forcing the player to allow for the ship slowing down and speeding up whenever the Thrust button was utilized - shot asteroids would often send fragments flying in seemingly random directions, and at varying and unpredictable speeds.

Classic Game Room season 1 - December 15, 1999. The boys at CGR review the Playstation 1 PS1 remake of the classic arcade hit, ASTEROIDS, which can now be played on a PS3 Playstation 3. Published by ACTIVISION, this old school remake of the older school coin-op classic from 1979 is an interesting remake and take on the Asteroids concept. An early Game Room episode, this is one of the really old-school century offerings from December 1999 before they even had a green screen. Classic Game Room was the first classic video game review show on the Internet, and one of the first (maybe the first) video game review show of all times produced specifically for the Internet.
Classic Game Room reviewed Atari, NES, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Playstation... too bad they didn't get to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 or Wii. Now Classic Game Room HD is covering the new systems.
Classic Game Room is on DVD.

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of ASTEROIDS for the Atari 7800 Prosystem. This classic video game was originally released in the arcade in 1979, this Atari cartridge version was copyright 1984 but probably saw its way to the stores in 1986. Asteroids is viewed as a retro old school classic vintage gaming hit today and is still a lot of fun. You control a space ship in a field of cosmic debris and blast away at it with your lasers in a unique shoot em up SHMUP style that is seen today in games like Geomety Wars. Astoids has been remade many times for systems like the Xbox 360 Live Arcade XBLA, the Playstation and others, and will probably see the PS3 Playstation 3 at some point.
Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. The HD series is reviewing PS3, Genesis, NES, Atari and Xbox 360. XBLA.
