My (first?!) appearance on Japanese TV, on the show that happened to be my favorite at the time. Note: Kaela Kimura would become famous nationwide soon after this incident. Coincidence? Hmmm...
---The script!---
Kaela is talking about how she was heading home on the train (presumably from taping, she was with a manager-like person), when she noticed someone (i.e., um, yours truly) giving her a curious stare.
She begins the ensuing conversation which I begin by asking (in Japanese):
"Ummm... are you Kaela?"
"Hm? Yes, that's me."
"Oh really?! I really like your show! Since coming I've watched the show for about half a year!" (I guess?)
Jigorou adds: "Your impression of foreigners living in Japan is pretty good!" (Ummm... :X )
Then she recalls that, after talking for a while, I realize that it's approaching midnight. Saku Saku is ironically about to re-run on TV soon -- on a day that I didn't watch in the morning.
She quotes me as saying, "It's almost midnight... I won't make it in time to watch the show!"
Towards the end, she conveys my utter confusion about that weird bird character on the show, which I then learned was a semi-inside joke related to Tottori Prefecture (*鳥*取→米子→よねご／よなご).
--What wasn't mentioned on the show:--
*) As a video game fan, I had to mention her apparent skill at "Shinobi", for the PS2. Apparently she's at least somewhat into gaming, which is always cool :D
*) On the day of the encounter, I was to leave Japan in just 4 days, and had planned to host a farewell party that Saturday. So, naturally, I invited her. But she said she was considerably busy, for reasons that I still don't understand... :'(
A long overdue special thanks to 課長 for recording this in my absence from Japan... (although I'm back now, with new and improved Japanese... thank jeevus...)
