| Ted Weems Orch. - Heartaches, Decca 1938 - 157 sec It is our YT friend's request:
Al HOFFMAN (1902--1960) - composer of this great American hit of 1940s. He was a songwriter in the 1930s, 40s and 50s, usually co-writing with others. Hoffman was born in Minsk - formerly Poland, now Belarus. His family -- like many other Jewish families living in Russia occupied territories - emigrated to the US. They lived in Seattle, Washington, and when he graduated from high school, he started his own band, playing the drums. In 1928 Al moved to New York City to pursue his music career. Though he continued playing the drums in night club bands and selling bagels door-to-door on Broadway, he began writing songs, collaborating with such other songwriters as Leon Carr, Leo Corday, Mann Curtis, Mack David, Al Goodhart, Walter Kent, Sammy Lerner, Jerry Livingston, Bob Merrill or Ed Nelson.
In 1934 he moved to London to work on stage productions and movies, co-writing the hit songs "She Shall Have Music" and "Everything Stops For Tea". He returned to the U.S. three years later. His best kown songs are "Heartaches" (1931), "Auf Wiedersehen, My Dear" (1932), and "I Saw Stars" (1934).

=======================================
"I Hope To Fly Again"
We flew so high together
And watched the world go on below
Floating 'round light as a feather
Then winds of change began to blow
And so you finally conceded
You didn't want me to feel bad
I just couldn't give you what you needed
But I gave you the best I had
Chorus
Some dreams come true in time
And some dreams fade away
But our love was so sublime
I hope to fly again someday
Our destiny seemed certain
To live as one, the perfect plan
But as time pulled away the curtain
You saw I was no magic man
And as I gaze upon our past
Reliving memories with a smile
I wish that somehow we could've made it last
Still I know it was all worthwhile
Chorus
Some dreams come true in time
And some dreams fade away
But our love was so sublime
I hope to fly again someday
Lord I just want to fly away Auteur : jgweems Tags: original song singing music animation funny piano disabled jonathan weems disability disabilities love inspirational |

TED WEEMS was a popular bandleader who started his band in 1923 while attending the University of Pennsylvania. Around 1925 he moved to Chicago where he played in hotels and ballrooms around the city while also touring the mid-west. In 1932 The Weems Orchestra started appearing regularly on a sponsored nationwide radio program with Jack Benny. It was through radio that Weems made a name for himself and he continued to be associated with popular radio programs throughout the 1930s and 1940s.

From Wikipedia:
ART JARRETT- bandleader and vocalist, son of actor-turned-writer Arthur L. Jarrett. A high tenor, the younger Jarrett appeared with several orchestras in the late 1920s and early 1930s, including Earl Burtnett, Red Nichols, Jimmie Noone, and Frankie Trumbauer. Aside from singing, Jarrett also played guitar, banjo and trombone. In the early 1930s he settled in with the Ted Weems Orchestra, where he remained until 1936 when he left to form his own band. During the 1930s Jarrett was married to Olympic gold medal swimmer Eleanor Holm, who also sang in his orchestra. Holm left Jarrett in 1938 and married producer Billy Rose.
Jarrett appeared in several films during the 1930s, including several B Westerns. His band never achieved a high level of popularity, and he disbanded it in 1940 to take over leadership of the Hal Kemp Orchestra after Kemp's tragic death. The attempt to keep the Kemp band going fizzled, however, and the group broke up after only a few months. Jarrett continued to lead orchestras throughout the 1940s. He later worked as a disc jockey and then a salesman. Art Jarrett died from pneumonia in 1987. Auteur : 240252 Tags: The Thirties American dance band 78s shellack nostalgia |
